Anyone know where i can find the drivers for this? I read about lots of people installing this windows on their machine, but the drivers are nowhere to be found.:banghead:
I run xp64 on my desktop, for MOST hardware you can find drivers. It does require alot of hunting for them depending on the hardware. As for a macbook, I have no idea but the core hardware should be supported. The major PITA will be the apple specific items: the camera, special keyboard functionality, and wireless. Lemme know which you still need and I will help you acquire them. Honestly if your just using it for normal tasks stick with 32bit, if you do any kinda of work that would benefit for 4 or more gb of ram then go 64bit. (photoshop, 3ds max, maya, acid, and other "pro" tools) As for xp64 being crap, after the service packs, its well on par with a 64bit server 2k3 to workstation mod. It's not crap if the applications you use can take advantage of it, just like any other 64bit os.
If the laptop has less than 4GB of RAM then I'd stick with 32-bit XP. Bootcamp should be simple enough.
The thing is that i clearly want the cake, and the money of the cake for this situation. I recently bought a 15inches macbook pro 2.5 ghz duo core with 4gb of ram and a nvidia 8600m GT 512mb vram from ebay. And i'm a gamer. i just installed windows xp 64 on it, and my next move is to install those hacks of DX10 for XP (i dunno if they're good, but will check anyway). 64 bit is for my 4gb of ram, DX10 is for the latest graphical tricks, and XP is to get the most out of my specs. I've searched on google and on xtorrent to get the drivers for a macbook pro on xp64, bu either i find the drivers for a macbook pro running xp32, or xp64 drivers for a normal macbook...eh. :banghead: And kholdfuzion (or anyone else for that matter), i'm searching for ethernet drivers right now (can't access internet via xp), the ones shipped on xp aren't enough it seems. edit: with all those custom xp distros made by some folks and spread with the help of torrent sites, i wonder why there's no windows xp special mac gamer edition yet....
I agree. With your specs Vista will surely suffice. Hacking and patching XP64 like that is more than likely to cause buggy headaches and performance bottlenecks.
XP 64 is iffy to begin with: buggy/unsupported drivers, application slowdowns, etc. To throw in a "hack" to use DX10 and to be honest, you are just asking for trouble. If the games you want to play look at the OS version to determine the DirectX mode to run in, then having DX10 will mean nothing.
 No, buying a Mac for gaming doesn't add up! Why would you do that when you can get a nice Dell (or many other brands now) laptop that has a decent graphics card? Come to think of it, why the hell would you want a laptop for gaming?!?! Yes, it can work OK, but you'll never get the performance of a desktop and it'll be outdated so fast it's not funny. Stick to a desktop for gaming, and use your Mac as a Mac! Or you could run Vista. Don't touch XP 64-bit. It is a horrible operating system. Driver issues (mainly lack thereof), poor application support and just all round CRAP!
Those don't add up either, lol. Seriously, throw Vista 64 on if your going to use 64 bit. Otherwise go with XP 32 or, god forbid, Vista 32. Ignore all the bullshit out there about Vista. I have a way better machine then that and I refuse to put old ass XP on it.
Well, i'm also a student that needs to travel alot between cegep, appartment, mother's house and working place. I wanted no assle with viruses and stuff, wanted to try out osx, liked the quality of the hardware and software of apple, and got a big machine for gaming at home already. I wanted to use garageband, CS3, Final Cut, and other mac only stuff.. 15 inches was because of of affordability and traveling (that bitch cost me 1450 bucks)
it is. Good memory speed, great chipset, a 8600m gt with 512mb vram on pci-e, a speedy harddrive, a good lcd,... people always forget about those little things that make huge difference, and since apple's one of the only doing quality laptops.... i think i'm going to install Vista, but that resource hogger creeps me out. And the thing is that i bought vista for my home computer, but don't want to pay for that bad software again... Anyone know about a vista activator that still works with the newest updates?
Whatever you do don't get Vista 64. It 1. Cant run half my apps (because its vista) then another 1/4 (because its 64 bit, 32 bit fine) Thats just me because I havent had any good luck with Vista 64. Windows XP x64 seems to work fine on my friends but I couldent find drivers.
Really? What aps give you trouble? I've used it since launch, only problem I've had is my scanner has no 64 bit drivers.
