This is no typo. This is ultra-ultra high-resolution! 24 monitors, 12 linux servers, 2 monitors per servers. and behind all this... This is insane man! http://plastk.net/blog/index.php?title=quake_3&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
I just wish the screens would project more of a "3 Dimensional" projection on the screens, similar to what you see when you wear 3-D glasses! Still awesome, and prolly the best resolution for Counter-Strike! :icon_bigg
Reminds me of a project i used to work on code named "cave". Similar results using rear projectors and a head mounted display...
I once heard a story of something similar to this where a guy had 3 pcs and 3 monitors with one wireless keyboard and was playing some MMO with 3 different characters all at once. I wonder how the crap that worked out?
The specs for Ultra High Definition have already been proposed aka Super Hi-Vision - 7680x4320 @ 60 frames per second and 22.2 3D surround sound. Apparently it was too good and people watching reported motion sickness as the images appeared too realistic. Source: http://www.nhk.or.jp/digital/en/superhivision/index.html
That is just insane! It reminds me of Doom, were you can hook up 3 monitors as well and have that "3D"-look.
Although I'd like to play Quake 3 on 24 monitors, I would really love to play Battlefield 2 on that many
Sound kinda like bullshit. What monitor can produce 7680x4320 @ 60fps? What format / player can render 7680x4320 @ 60fps? And 22.2? What's the .2? That's 11.5 speakers per ear (assuming the .2 is a higher freq sub).
I think you doesnt understand the fact something doesnt need to be accesible to the everyday consumers and have a nice price to exist.;-)
7680 isnt that far from what iam running my desktop or halflife 2 now (1920x1200) its just 4 times more so what i have seen stranger things in my life (320x200 for example =)
Main site has been updated with video content. Looks amazing, though I would prefer a first person view from the player. Check it out!
Those research guys are nuts! NHK know their stuff though - they've been trying out 1125-line HDTV since the 70s (though they could only originally do it in black & white!), and they were the first people to demonstrate digital PCM audio recordings (i.e. the same technology used on CDs and most digital audio today).
That is not so uncommon, at least on Everquest. One character tanks, there other nukes, the other buffs/heals/casts support magic. I knew of a few people that played 2 at once and one guy played 3 on occassion.
