WANTED: Programmer to help compile/makeiso of unreleased source code

Discussion in 'Sony Programming and Development' started by Benedict_Arnold, Mar 4, 2006.

  1. Are there any experienced ps1 programmers out there who could compile and make an iso (bootable disc) given the source code and libs to an unreleased ps1 game? I had a person working on it but he seems to have disappeared. He was able to bring up a blank screen but the lead programmer of the game told me a few things to do and I'm not sure if the person did them or not. Whoever (if anyone) wishes to do it must not leak out any data and must agree to a nda.:fresh: I will post pics of the game for everyone. The person can keep a copy for themselves as well. I can't say what game it is because this frickin forum is searchable by google. I am the only person other than the programmer who has the source so if it was ever leaked, I would obviously be the person that fingers would point to.

It would seem all you need is the proper software, a debugger, and a transfer cable to connect to your debugger (although the programmer told me it might not work unless you burn it to a disc). So if you need to burn it to a disc, will you need CD Rom Generator software or is there an alternative? Supposedly the source is already compiled. Who knows. I don't. I have a backup of the libs as well (again, supposedly. It all looks foreign to me.).

I just want to play this accursed game.

You're asking a lot for a charity job. Most people would be PAID for recovery work, paid with real currency, not an unreleased game they can't profit from. Soliciting here is practically asking for somebody to rip you off as your "person working on it" appears to have done, afterall it's a crime of opportunity to "unreleased" fetishists.

  3. I never said I wouldn't pay so I'm not sure what you are getting at.

It would be a fun thing to try out.. but as I'm not to experienced in the psx and don't know how complete the source is, I could probably not guarantee anything. and I probably don't really have the tools for it either.. only got the sdk + a retail psx, no dev. hardware. and as I got two jobs for the moment I probaly only could work on it weekends too.
but as I stated, it would be fun to try out.. but it's up tp you.
and I guarantee that if I do this, I will keep it confidential.

Being allowed a copy of an unreleased game is payment enough for compiling it, at least I'd consider that to be the case if I had the necessary hardware.

I would do it for free if i had the software setup. Actually, if someone could toss me a copy of the PSX SDK software, i'd do it for you.

Sometimes the payment is in the action itself. Some people actually have fun cracking software...

EDIT: As for ripping someone off over some unreleased code... It's all in who you trust. I would hope that my reputation would be to the point that you wouldn't think i would throw it up on kazaa...

  7. I have some software but I don't know if it's what you need. I think a certain ftp here has it too. What will you need to burn it to a cd? The programmer mentions that the dat file may have to be on a cd. He mentions setting DEBUG to 1 so it prints errors to the screen. How is that done?

well.. if you have some file named makefile or similar for building the project open it in notepad and try to find the line where it compiles the C/C++ files and add the parameter:
    -DDEBUG=1
to that line and hope for the best ;)

Well you never said you would pay. Why won't the lead programmer compile, link and make a CD image for you?

Allot of members of this board are interested in collecting, playing etc of unreleased games. So I can imagine that getting an source code and at the end an working copy of an unreleased game, is the 'payment'.

  11. I couldn't have said it better. But if someone were able to get it up and running I wouldn't mind donating some money to them. The programmer can't do it himself because he doesn't have any development hardware anymore and he doesn't work in the industry anymore as well. It's a very thankless job and a lot of gamers don't realize that. You could have a job one day and the next day the developer goes out of business.

I do have limited contact with him so if someone working on it had specific questions or problems I could always ask the programmer.

The only necessary hardware is your PC, to run a PS emulator. It's absolutely not necessary to have a Debugger (although a DTL-H2000 would make things simpler in a way.)

It's not that I don't understand people working for the game, it's just that honestly the people who will jump through hoops for the source probably don't have the experience to use it.

  13. ProgrammingAce would have the experience, but the question really is do the people who are able to do it really have time to do it? The answer is probably no. I cannot release it to the public (although it would nice) because I made a promise not to. I will keep my word and if it never gets compiled then it'll die with me.

I think I tried ePSXe to run one of the exe files. I don't think it worked. But I'll try it again.

Since you're so paranoid, if I were you, I'd ask for whomever to compile me Beatmania or another released game you have source for before hand. Not everyone that thinks they can, can just arrange a PSX CD, as will probably be needed. Also should the job be more involved than running a makefile, I have my doubts that just anyone with a C++ community college class behind them will be able to succeed. I'm certain this board has a few members with at least some real experience with PS development, maybe one of them will help you out.
