Look man, I don't have any problem with you, and in fact welcome you into the community. All I'm saying is that it sounds like you're comming off a little arrogant to the rest of us.

    For example:

You basically just insulted the whole board, yet as you can see nobody flintched becasue everyone is cool here.

Sorry for the asschewing, but I hope you understand that made me a little pissed.

P.S. Gamate was made by a company called Bit Corp, who also made clone computers in the early 80's, as well as the Dina (or Telegames Arcade.)

And it's a hunk of crap.

    Oh yeah....

my lunchbox was bright red, haven't seen any (original) console that was that colour yet ;-)

And the Gamate in the UK was the Cheetah Gamate, most likely under license :)

Yeah, Bit Corp. of Korea created the Gamate and all of its games, between 1990 and 1991. I don't remember seeing any games marked 1992, so I'd assume the system tanked before then. There were rumors of a color Gamate system, up to the point that some speculate it was actually released in certain areas, but I highly doubt it as no solid proof has ever come forward.

Thanks for clearing that up for everyone, Hawanja, I'm sorry to say I made an error there, screwing up the two company names, most likely because I was pre-occupied when I wrote that post (which can often lead to error making!). I very much dislike posting inaccurate info, so I'm glad someone caught my stupid mistake before it misled anyone.

Do you actually own a Gamate, Hawanja, or have played one before? I'm curious to what experience you may have had that led you to state that the Gamate is "a hunk of crap".

BITS (a seperate company and unrelated to the Gamate) produced a few games for SuperVision, including Sssnake and Tennis Pro '92. Their games are some of the only ones that make use of the SuperVision's digital sound.

Chris - gotcha... and I remember when your website used to have a small section devoted to the SuperVision. I guess these bits were lost in the shuffle, yes?

Actually, I have both Gamate and Supervision, and some games for each (although not as many as you do.)

When I say "hunk of crap," I mean that compared to other systems of the time (Gameboy, Game Gear, Lynx) it was pretty lacking in the capabilites/software titles department. Of course, that doesn't mean there aren't good games out there for it, or that it isn't worth collecting.

What other handhelds are you into?

    My handheld collection:

    OG Game Boy/GBC/GBA SP
    Game Gear
    Turbo Express
    Gamate
    Supervision (Hartung)
    Tiger Game.com
    Cougar Boy (Brazillian Megaduck)
    Neo Geo pocket color
    Game Axe
    Atari Lynx (OG version)

Color Gamate was supposedly released in Mexico/South America, so maybe some of our south of the border members have some leads.

Bit Corp also made a 2600 clone called the Amigo:

Gamate isn't represented correctly on the internet, unfortunately, so I have no worthwhile links to give to people who actually may wish to learn more about it. Only a few sites even mention it, and the system specifications are always incorrect. I hope someone (like me, maybe, when I get a larger collection and more solid technical info) will make a small Gamate site to inform people of it...

I agree Gamate is junk, because of the reason I mentioned before about the system being flimsy, annoying and having volume level effect contrast. So to emulate Gamate one day would mean you can actually PLAY the games without going insane!!

As far as what handhelds I'm interested in and collect for (in no particular order):

    SuperVision
    Gamate
    Mega Duck / Cougar Boy
    Game.com
    Game King
    Game Master
    Lynx
    WonderSwan
    Neo Geo Pocket Color

I don't collect for WonderSwan, I just enjoy it since I think it is a lovely handheld compared to Gameboy Advance which I never really liked much at all. I have most WonderSwan games I could ever want already, so no need/interest to buy more of them. I'd like to investigate development for it, but no one wants to sell a flash kit for a decent price. D'oh! Hoarders are meanies.

I don't collect for Neo Geo Pocket Color, either, I just like it for some games, mostly because it completely destroys the Gameboy Color. I've always hated the Gameboy Color and most of the games made for it. The only Gameboy I really ever enjoyed was the original b&w, because they put the most effort into the games for it at the time. When it comes to a BIG company making a handheld, you come to expect great games, not waste of time like most GBC+GBA games are. This is only my opinion, though, so forum visitors don't make it a point to crucify me for liking SuperVision and disliking GBC+GBA. Remember, I'M NUTS.

I have a full set of games for Game.com (who doesn't?), but no Tiger Game.com MODEM.

Game Master and Game King are absolute GARBAGE, but I collect for them anyway. If someone wants to shovel their useless Game Master or Game King games to me, I'll buy 'em if I don't have copies of 'em already. Just consider yourself lucky someone actually wants them.

Brian Provinciano makes a good effort at doing crazy things with the Game King like modifying it so he can directly take screenshots of games, so check his website out if you want to know more about this 2004-released b&w handheld junk:
    Brian Provinciano's Game King pages

Mega Duck, for those who aren't aware, is just a Gameboy system with some jumpers changed. Games are mostly Sachen (under the name Commin) cr@p, but some are higher-quality than their SuperVision games. Mega Duck wouldn't be so bad if it didn't have the constant BUZZING sound coming out of the speaker. Creatronic PIRATED the Gameboy, yet they still weren't smart enough to make a half-decent speaker. Wow... quality.

Ok, it's snack time. I'm getting away from the keyboard for a bit.

I've got some information on the Gamate from an Aussie perspective on Press Start at http://www.angrypixel.net/pressstart/index.php?s=content&p=gamate

I wrote it ages ago purely on memories of time spent with a friends Gamate when I was in highschool. I've had one of my own lined up for ages, but I'm yet to collect it off the guy who's giving it to me. Additions or clarifications to that page or any page on Press Start are always welcome (I know the Gamate page is well in need of an update, especially the games quality part which needs to be changed and refined)

I've also dismembered a Hartung GameMaster and photographed it, which can be found at: http://www.angrypixel.net/pressstart/index.php?s=content&p=insidehgm

European release boxes. Nice. Those 3 games are fairly common finds, but for US$3 each? That's a great price regardless.

I sent you a private message about this. Respond at your leisure. Thanks for letting us know about this, btw, and posting the pic of your game boxes was also neat, since it gives some forum viewers their first sight of SuperVision games. That... is a good thing? Heh, heh, heh!
