I know this is a long shot...but this is a game I love...so I'm curious as to whether or not it exists in any way.

    War: Final Assault

I was all excited when I heard it was coming out for N64...and then it was cancelled...

Has anybody heard anything about the existance of this game in any way, shape or form?

It looks as if it was being done by Midway. I guess it can't have gotten too far though...as IGN had an article announcing it in December of 98 and one announcing its cancellation in May of 99.

It was an arcade game right? I think i remember playing it on GameWorks around 99 / 2000.

Never heard of home ports though.

    EDITED:
    Found some articles about it:

Surprise! It's coming -- and it's all about multiplayer deathmatch. The full preview.

Yeah, that was the one...and those were pretty much the only articles I know of about it.

I too played it at a Gameworks.

For those who don't know, its essentially an arcade first/third person shooter. Controls were a giant joystick to control looking, and a set of buttons to control movement. It was pretty much as close as you could get to a keyboard/mouse in the arcade.

It ran on Voodoo Banshee based hardware.

I'd like to get the cabinet some day...(a few of them really)...though The Grid...would be a good substitution.

Yeah, they used to have a cluster of them at my local arcade. It was great for multiplayer. I wonder why they never made a PC port, since it obviously had a lot of PC hardware in it.

I dunno, I'm no software developer...so I don't really know what you can do in Six months...(december until may I'm sure that the game was worked on before that)...but I figure that there had to have been a pretty decent portion done. With the relatively sticky fingers of American developers (no offense...but not much comes out of Japan)...I thought that there might be something out there.

Thanks for the link, I guess I missed that one.

Engine written...scheduled for release in Nov 99....cancelled in May...its a cart...so I figure it has to be ready a good bit earlier than its release date for production...and there's nintendo's approval...

    :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:

Sounds like it was pretty far along.

Cmon...this has to be sitting around on some hard drive somewhere...hopefully...

I know of The Grid (in fact, I mentioned it in my second post of this thread), but it wasn't a sequel or follow up...as far as I can tell. I read about it...and it seems that the Grid was made by a different team alltogether...and is generally not considered a sequel (though it still is a great game).

I've found an article in some n64 magazine I had laying around.
Really a shame this wasn't released, those screenshots look pretty cool.

I uploaded a scan of the article here:
