Iraq? no, it's Sao Paulo, the biggest city of Brazil is on war since friday night, http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/americas/05/15/brazil.violence.ap/index.html I'm just arrived on my job and I'm going home right now, everybody is going home. http://noticias.uol.com.br/ultnot/album/pcc_album.jhtm?abrefoto=26
I have read it, and knew about it, for along time, thanks to TV Avisen on DR1 in Denmark, where they told, that the prison riots and etc. But yes it is shocking.
PCC is linked to colombian drug cartels, so the government needs to bring in the federal police officers and kill off the gang members because it will get worse if they don't. Be careful down there.
Makes deciding my stops on my next vacation to South America that much easier. Best of luck to you, and our other posters in Brazil.
It took me 4 hours to arrive home and at 8:00pm the streets were empty. It was the first time I saw something like that, hyper markets, shopping centers, schools and universities closing theirs doors before night coming, really scary :/ I hope tomorrow becomes a better day. PD
What exactly are the gangs complaining about? None of the news reports seem to be saying much, just talking about the violence.
They were transfering two high ranking leaders of the gang from one prison to a maximum security prison and that is why all hell broke loose down there. Its a prison/street gang violence.
Life is going back to normal now. Everybody is still afraid and the attacks are decreasing, but we hope for a more "normal" night tonight. Now we need the government to wake up and work to avoid this kind of stuff again in the future.
