Has the Japanese version of Super Metroid ever been dumped? I've never seen a dump of it online, only the American version.

Rumor is that the Japanese and American versions are bytewise identical, even the cartridge header. I can't rule this out, because my Japanese Super Metroid cartridge defaulted to English mode just like the American cart did.

I've heard that Mario Paint is the same way.

You guys probably know a lot more than me about this =)

Super Game Boy was more unusual. Even its Europe version is identical (excluding lockout chip). So bsnes defaults its emulation mode to NTSC for that reason.

On a similar note, Metroid II released English only in Japan.

If you look at your ROM it likely says Super Metroid (JU) [!]. See both the J and the U? Same MaskROMs were indeed used. Just different packaging.

The Japanese game was dumped before it was released as far as I remember.

The original US release included a double manual with the Japanese manual and English manual on opposite sides. I don't thing the Player's Choice Million Seller series did, but I'm not sure.

I have the Japanese Metroid II and there is no Japanese and very little English in the game, just item names, menu name, etc.
