Was Turbo Grafx 16 Sold As Console(no cords/controller)ONLY?

I've been offered what the seller tells me is a brand new, sealed Turbo Grafx 16.

Thing is he also says it's JUST the console inside the sealed box, no cables or controller/game.

This struck me as weird seeing as selling a console only without any cables at least is weird as hell and unheard of.

Am I being scammed here? Or was the Tg16 actually sold this way?

Help needed asap and much appreciated, thanks.

Umm maybe its a refurb? Console only (or a unit sent for repair?)

I thought so. TY for letting me know, not too late to back out of the deal.

It`s not common but manufacturers have offered just consoles to retailers or distributors

I know Nintendo have done it with the SNES and so did Sony with the PS2.

I think at one point it was possible to buy new boxed Nintendo consoles direct from Nintendo without any cables or pads, usually as a replacement if yours broke

But in relation to your query I have no idea whether this applies to the Turbo Grafx.

Hmm thanks for your help. i think i may go ahead with it. The price is decent as it is and he does have good feedback on ebay .

As for Tg16 av cables and Ac adaptors, are they difficult to find? Do 3rd party ones work OK?

  8. I'd call bullshit on the guy - it's absolutely unheard-of to purchase just a console - even the so-called 'core' systems from Nintendo, Sega, etc. had all the hookups and controllers.

Ask him to send you a picture of the box - odds are, he might be retarded and not think the cables/controller are included.

Yeah...if it comes in a retail box...that is an official TG-16 box, with space for the contoller and hookups...he's probably bullshittin you.

When I asked him about it he said :

I'm going to go ahead with it..what he says kind of meshes, he has great ebay feedback, and has always voluntarilty given me full contact info (name, number, address etc) and we play Outrun 2 regularly over LiVE (erm, not sure if that means anything, heh). He also lives in Canada as well which makes it a great deal simpler in some ways.

About TG16 PSUs/AV cables, are third party varities dependable or do I risk frying my baby?

Well, I still think he's bullshitting, but I guess it's okay if you're getting a GREAT deal...as for your accessories, you're lucky because....

    www.tzd.com

exists. Real nice fellas there. They should have everything you need there, just go to the site, and click on the price list. Everything is new, because the employees there are, if my memory serves me right, the remnants of TTI, Inc.

    Good luck!

I don't think TZD consoles are new new, they're refurbished or repackaged, I can't remember which.

I have a friend who has been a customer of theirs since they opened. I'm positive they repackage their Duos at least. I think what do is reinsert factory NOS into their boxes so they're not officially sealed.

Yeah you need the Turbo Booster. Better wait and get a CDROM then you get CDROM & composite :D

they don't refurbish their duo's or anythng...sometimes by special request of a regular they've been known to recondition one but everything they sell is absolutely unplayed...there should still be an article on TZD at www.pcenginefx.com

looks like he hasn't gotten around to adding that interview to the site yet...

Yeah, good idea...but then TG-CDs are so expensive...I think going JP for a DUO might be more worthwile when I have more cash and just getting a turbo booster plus for now.

If you're already gonna have a Turbo Grafx, you might as well get a US CD system, then add an import adapter, as you'll pay through the nose for a Duo.

Yeah just saw that, damn. I wish there were a cheaper way to get a TG16 CD as well, they're not exactly cheap. Later on then, oh well.
