http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/10483/Next-Halo-Game-not-Halo-3/
"At yesterday's press event held in New York for the announcement of Viva Piñata, Shane Kim said “We're not here to talk about the mythical Halo 3, as I call it".

He continued: "We'll be talking about anything we're doing in the Halo universe - whether that's Halo 3 as I call it or anything else - at the right time. That time will be soon."

This last comment not only confirms the next game in the Halo series will be announced soon, probably at E3 2006, but also suggests that it might not be Halo 3 as everyone expects.

Either Bungie is working on more than one game set in the Halo universe, or the third game in the series won’t be a direct sequel to Halo 2.

According to the latest issue of Game Informer, Bungie's next project is called Forerunner and although the game belongs to the Halo series, it might actually be a prequel with a storyline set in the Halo universe, but focused on the origins of the Forerunners, their connection to humanity, and the Covenants.

An insider source supposedly told Game Informer that the upcoming Halo movie will be based on the Halo: The Fall of Reach book with the game complementing the movie, and therefore being a prequel as well."
Well, I guess this shows how much Microsoft is going to milk the Halo series. Why make Halo 3 and end the series when we can make LOTSA prequels?!

I cant say Im surprised, though.

Halo is the only weapon microsoft have against sony. And its over rated, but it still sells. They need to milk it as long as they dont find anything else.

Just wait until Master Chief follows in Mario's footsteps and the marketing department gets ahold of the franchise:

Master Chief Tennis
Master Chief Pinball
Covenant Idol
Halo Smash Brothers
Halo Cart
etc.

Um... if there isn't a Halo in the game... then why call it Halo? I remember a lot of people were whining about there being another Halo in Halo 2. Well... maybe Bungie fixed that. If you're just on the Covenant homeworld fighting Covenant, and you don't go to an actual Halo... then... why not call it something else?

And personally, I don't care if they never return to another Halo, because I hate the flood with a passion. Most. annoying.FPS.enemy.ever.

Its just gonna be Halo 1-50. He might make a few cameos in other games, though.

one would hope the audience for Halo is smarter than falling for endless sequels and tie ins, but then again one match on xboxlive brings you back to reality...

I don't think milking a series is that bad of a thing, as long as the games are good. How many Castlevania games are there? Like 27? Nobody complains when they make one of those every year.

Bungie Kart Racing

With the brain drain they've had, expect halo 3 to be a rushjob and lots of live patching.

How many Mega Man games are there? 60?

I think Capcom are the kings when it comes to milking a Franchise.

Honestly, I think there are more Mega Man games than Mario games. It must be a really close race anyway.
