I would like to learn some basic web design. I'd like to put up a basic website with some pictures of videogame rarities and the information that ties it together. I don't need to win any awards just text and pictures really. I still have the ecgx.com domain back from when I started the exgx show but no content.

    How best to get started?

Get some basic tutorials about html and css and then take one of these layouts from the link bellow and try and understand how its put together. Once you understand that edit it for your personal use. This whole site has some really good examples and tutorials.

You could also use the template based websites offered by most web hosting companies, they are usually pretty good and many can be modified since they are just files uploaded to your web space.

I used to have a website with DMON and they basically gave you a fully functioning website and all you had to do was choose the design and add to/edit the pages. It may have been a bit much for your needs and was a little complex to begin with but there is probably other places that do the same but in simpler form allowing to do minimal work apart from adding text and pictures to an already created website design.

Yeah, use a CMS. Something like CMSMS, Drupal, Mambo, Joomla or maybe even Wordpress. Or you could use wiki software. As long as you have hosting with PHP and a MySQL database and are able to follow instructions, you should be fine.
