I've just launched my new project HROST hrost.net is the link; i was wondering how to make people know about it without being impolite/using intosive banners etc etc and getting it to know to the right target people... any idea/suggestion?
You could make a small transparent .PNG of your banner scaled down and use it for a signature linking it directly to your site. Hexigon's signature would be a good size reference. Otherwise you could also make smaller "patch" type banners. Just nothing obnoxiously large, bright or animated/flashing constantly. You could post it on places like OverClocked ReMix or many of the other sites listed in their links section or even over at the Video Game Music Database and other sites of similar interest. Also about your site... 1. Your index page has no title other than "Home" on it. Perhaps correct this and include a favicon to overwrite your host's default? 2. Background is solid white, please make it slightly off-white to avoid screen glare/burning eyes. 3. Your news/feed module, you should be able to change the username from "Super User" to your usual username in the settings file so people more familiar with your username can recognize you should you get additional people involved in the news/feed section. If you would like to use any of my unreleased music rips (they were either ripped directly from the games (that used pre-recorded ADX or other formats) or ripped and rebuilt using the soundbanks dumped out of the games), feel free to do so. If you do, I'll include a shout out link in my own affiliates links over on Stalking Insanity. Given the intention of HROST, I will also happily include a link in my own signatures here, elsewhere and will happily give a shout-out whenever possible.
I really appreciate your offer and would gladly host your soundtracks althought i would like to hear more in detail. Concerning banner i thought about it, but hrost scope my not be explained well enough. Concerning the super user matter it's a difficult issue to fix, but it is so just on front page; 99.9% of activity is intended to be on the forums. And there i have my usual nick. I thought about other communities like OCremix but i do not want to be considered a spammer... Oh and i'll gladly link back to you
No worries mate. Ah, what specifics would you like to know? Most of the unreleased ones are either completely without a soundtrack OR the retail soundtrack is missing a large chunk of tracks or certain tracks sound completely and utterly different. Most of the ones I have are either: Super Famicom/SNES, PS1, PS2 and there are some PC ones that I had to piece back together by digging up an older MIDI soundbank that would've been the intended sound for the games at the time. If I haven't directly captured the audio from the console (if I can't manually rebuild the music 1:1 with the raw files, which I had to do with Clock Tower on WonderSwan), I've either manually dug through the game's files and have fished out the soundbanks and rebuilt the music if they were using streaming methods OR if they used pre-recorded music, then manually ripped the music. For instance - some tracks in NieR Gestalt/RepliCant were not released or the soundtrack version is different to what was used in-game and the music in-game has multiple layers of pre-recorded audio that's loaded up in-game. Drag-on Dragoon 2/Drakengard 2 had quite a lot of music that remains unreleased in any retail form, this music was pre-recorded. For another major retail difference - Biohazard/Resident Evil - CODE: Veronica Complete/X has a soundtrack release BUT quite a few tracks differ to what was used in-game (chunks cut out of it for the retail mix, others are missing instruments or sound very muffled) and many of the in-game tracks are longer, the sound quality from the raw files is also better than what was on the soundtrack too! For RECVX, such an example would be Awesome Powers OST version against the Raw game version (direct WAV link on my site) To be quite honest, a large amount of the games in my collection never had soundtrack releases so I've manually ripped music from both my own and my husband's individual collections. I haven't released most of these music rips but whenever I do, I check for retail versions and do a comparison against the retail and rips and if the differences are noticeable to others too, then I will typically release the music. If that's fine with you, send me a PM and I can send some more samples if you want. I've made a few sets of my rips available on here already so if you want to leech it from my site or mirror them to your own, either is fine with me. As for OCremix, they need music rips for source comparison references and there are not many resource sites for this so this would be a perfect usage of your site! As for a small banner, just include a small spiel below it - if you're using pixel type fonts then it'll read just fine at smaller scales to roughly explain that it's for true/exact versions of unreleased music across multiple systems.
Sounds perfect and a deal I'll be interested in those osts that up to now can't be recorded from real hardware (so in this case not snes, that i can freely record myself) and all those "unreleased tracks/wrong in ost" tracks. when home i'll listen in more details. join the project and forums so you can take a look at the relesed ost quality and way of package/sharing
Sure thing. I've already made an account on the forums and had a listen to some of the tracks on there. I'm sorry if I'm going in circles and not making much sense, I've come down with the flu (again! Big surprise!)and am kinda out of it at the moment.
Neck and back pain here lol i did understand all tell me what release you would like to make as first so i can start working on extra details and cover
I have some rebuilt Clock Tower music which includes unused and prototype music all pre-ripped with covers made already. I also have music from Syphon Filter 1 through to Syphon Filter 3 all recorded from hardware but also rebuilt versions using the files from the games too, also with covers made. I've sent you a PM with some links to both rebuilt, recorded and ripped music samples from stuff I tend to focus my collecting on.
