So Yakuza Of the End came out in the US this week (under a different title). This is one of my favorite series right now but the reviews here for the new game have been abysmal. IGN gave it a 5 out of 10. Curious I checked the famitsu score from a year ago when it came out in Japan. It got 9s and 10s! This amazes and confuses me. None of the game has changed yet the US press says the game shooting mechanics are terrible but the japanese press loved the game obviously. So much for trusting reviews I suppose.
Famitsu has become a joke. They give out scores in the high 30s like candy now. I guess it was all downhill when they gave Nintendogs a perfect 40.
There is no all knowing entity that is able to give a universal opinionated review of a video game. Reviews are based on a single person's history playing games. The scores are superficial. You have to read between the lines to extract facts and bits of information that would help steer your purchasing decision. Things like bugs and framerate problems are some of the first things I look for whenever I look at a review. Also both east and west are slaves to a money making industry. Many reviews are biased because advertisters pay their salaries.
