Hi, i was playing today mortal kombat 3 with a friend, while we were playing i accidently kicked the sega genesis, and the game hanged, but instead of showing corrupted graphics it showed a blue screen (like a BSOD) showing some memory directions. Luckily my friend had his cellphone, and thanks to that we could take some photos of the screen. I've attached the photos of the bug in the message. See you later.

This happened very often on my MK3 (back in the day). On one occasion I couldn't even boot it anymore. Got a another copy but had the same problems (only less so). I think it has something to do with the production as I've seen it happen on many occasions.

I'm going to guess because they crashed and the displayed information would be useful to the games developers in fixing said bugs :p

Yeah, it's weird, but the most strange thing about this bug is that the music didn't stop! the music kept playing until i turned off the console, really! I think one of the reasons for releasing Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was because of this bug.

Uh, no. Remember, these were ports of the arcade games.

Favorite bug from the Genesis version of MK 1.

If I remember right, you had to fight in The Pit during mirror match, then battle Reptile to make the 2nd opponent show up glitchy.

I think you could also get the glitch to appear on your own character if you hit start on the player 2 controller during the second battle.

Yah, music on Genesis is generated by a different z80 cpu, the main cpu can hit an ice berg and the band still plays on.

It looks like the program developers included exception handling code in the cartridge and when you kicked the genesis you created a temporary connection that caused a glitched opcode or memeory address which in turn caused the exception handling code to kick in and dump the registers and stack

If you dump the rom you will find the address of the exception handler within the vector block at the start of the file

In the Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy hack (basically mortal kombat trilogy done better on the sega genesis), if you let the attract mode go on for too long, the game will eventually crash with the weird blue screen of dump thingy.
