Hello! I just bought a used Nintendo 64 and underneath the console there is a 3.5mm male audio cable with plug coming out. Anyone know what it is for and what it is used for? There is also a serial number carved into the top of the console (just above the Nintendo logo).
Crack it open and take a look. Someone could've easily done a RGB mod and decided they wanted discrete audio output but didn't want to properly cut two holes for phono plugs.
That's a Pro Audio Mod for chiptune artists, just like on the Gameboy! Either that, or it's actually an input from someone who really liked "Hey You Pikachu[/i]... (j/k of course.) My guess would be it's just a second audio output (but what for I have no idea...). Open it up, then we'll know for sure.
I have now opened it up and inside there is a circuit board with cables soldered to the power-input. There are also 3 AA batteries hot glued onto the board.
I'm stumped. Maybe the cable was meant tor provide power to a copier or other device without needing a separate PSU? Then again that wouldn't even begin to explain the batteries... Looking forward to some pics, if possible.
Oh dear oh dear. You'll have to try to get a picture of that up, not only to find out what it is but so we can properly mock such an unusual home mod ;*) Hot glue battery holder? Real men use duct tape!
Erm, don't plug it into something without at least putting a meter on it first, unless you like destroying equipment.
