I saw a whole pallette of ps3s out at best buy today, being untouched except for the occasional person who would try to pick up the box and realize it was infact an actual ps3 not just a display box, not exactly hot cake action there
It's funny how I keep hearing about everybody having ps3's available. I went christmas shopping last night and ended up going to 5 different places looking for a particular computer game for my mom (2 eb games, target, circuit city, and toys'r'us). Everytime I'm out, I always casually peruse the sections to see if anyone has them in stock. Well last night was no different than any other time, no ps3's or wii's in stock. I'm curious to know where people live that they have these in stock. I know that I live in a big city, but still. I don't really want one (yet), I'm just curious because everyone seems to be talking about how readily available they are. Whats funny is that 4 out of 5 of those stores had busted ps3 consoles in their display units (the toys'r'us didn't have a display at all). They were either marked "out of order" or the screen was blank when all other kiosks seemed to be functioning.
I've never seen a wii in stock, i've seen alot of frozen ps3 displays though, theres not enough ventiliation for hte system to sit there running all day long
Surely you're joking, right? Every place I went to that had one had the same kiosk setup: fake ps3 under a bubble, real ps3 underneath it (with minor differences like different monitors and tack on graphics). On the one EB games kiosk I noticed that the monitor was still on and the display was making a *very* loud noise, so much that I could hear all the way in the back (kiosks was positioned right next to the front door). I examined the working system down below and it noticed there are vents place on all sides of its box plus the noise was apparently coming from ventilation fans built into the kiosk. Every kiosk they had except for the gamecube seemed to have these, although non of them were nearly as loud. So I'm to beleive that a ps3 in a ventilated enclosure with exhaust fans will still overheat? I guess I really will have to wait for the "ps3 slims".
Where I live the PS3 NEVER EVER sold out. We have been able to get new and used ones since day 1 !! Now the Wii is a different story  Yakumo
I live in a moderately large town and every place is out of stock. They are starting to stay on the shelves longer from what I understand but still sell out in a few hours.
Thats what confuses me though. Local classifieds have them listed for around MSRP + tax with a few clueless ones listing for "~$1500 obo" hoping to get lucky. My favorite one was a guy who had listed it almost every other day since he got it. Then just a few days ago, he listed it everyday as "$599 firm. I stood in line for this at launch for 47 hours at Best Buy. If I can't get my asking price, I'm just going to return it and get my money back." I had a laugh because I think he was one of the ones wanting ~$3k for it when he first posted. Despite this, and despite people claims that they are just "sitting on the shelves with people passing them by", I've still yet to see one.
I work at a WalMart, and we haven't had them in for quite a while. As far as our "kiosk" setup, we have an endcap with a looped "propaganda" video setup (which is nothing more than a Sony LCD monitor hooked up to some weird CF card reader) above, with a fake PS3 and the games in the locked cabinet, and a playable demo PS3 right around the corner in the gamecase with PS2 games (just like the other console kiosks. The irony is that both manage to lock up (both the CF card reader, and quite often) and the PS3 on occasion. When the real PS3 goes down (hard locks), one has to actually switch off the unit and flip it back on. Worse yet, the "propaganda" video is shown in 1080i (if the CF reader is reset, watch the middle left section of the screen and it will say 1080i, not 1080p which is what the PS3 brags about in the "propaganda" video). A friend of mine who works in Electronics leaves the video frozen, so he isn't annoyed by "The PlayStation 3" this, and "The PlayStation 3" that, and yes, it gets annoying extremely fast.
PS3 isnt released here yet, but Wii seems to be sold out at most places. I've only seen it in stock once at a big electronics store. However most people i've heard that want one have been able to get it within the week. Seems a lot of people pre-ordered it at like 10 stores and see which one they get first etc, so you can get one pretty fast if you actually want one.
PS3s (esp 20 GB ones) are in stock at all major metro areas. As I said a month ago, if you were going to cash in, launch week was the time to do it. Just like the PS2 days, anyone who waited for Xmas week to "make a mint" isn't going to make anything. -hl718
Sorry to go OT, but I could've sworn you posted that exact same message minutes ago (or probably hours), and it's showing up as 1 minute ago.
Nope, they are in stock in everyshop here and in the next city. Finding a Japanese PS3 is easy. Yakumo
An idea struck me today. Are people actually seeing PS3's in stock? Or is it just empty boxes. I think out of about 3 places that I went, I actually saw ps3 retail boxes, but they were all empty. I wonder if people are confusing them.
Well, its kind of funny to see this post because I just went into Target yesterday. I was shopping for Christmas gifts, but as I normally do, I had to go to the video game section to see what was available that I had missed or slipped through my radar. Low and behold, there is a PS3 sitting behind the class cabinet. Not one person seemed interesting in the time I was there. Also, I had to laugh at the frozen kiosk. My estimation, which seems to be in agreement with most, is that there are PS3's in stock. And not many people seem to care. To put it in perspective, I live about 45 minutes outside of Chicago...
Maybe the hype woreoff faster than the Ps2's cuz today is easier to get info on the subject for the average joe out there, like videos showing how bad BC is, that kind of stuff.... Dunno, the first PStwo had some serious OH issues, to the point I'll rather see the big PS2 being manufactured again, specially for the HDD...
I think the price tag is now starting to shake people off the idea of a ps3. 360 had no problem with being an imposible item to get till Feb/Mar in the USA. As well you go into a store and they easly have 360 in stock with a much better selection of games for $100 cheaper. Wii on the other hand I wait to see final numbers. It looks pretty well sold out but I've heared a few people still finding it posible ot get if you go in the morning. My prediction for the best seller this xmas is the DS. Gonna be imposible to beat.
I think we're going to see another N64-like scenario with the Wii, just that much faster than before...
