    Hey guys,

I have 4 Game Gears and (sadly) all of them have a problem with the screen.

1st picture - Shinobi level select.
2nd picture - same console, no cartridge. The story with that one is pretty long. I got it with dead capacitors. They got replaced and it worked fine. Then, it got a black splat of dead pixels. Aside from that, it was ok. Then, one day I turned it on and it was in the state as shown in the pictures. The day before, I used it with a SEGA CD adapter, which is 10 volt, the Game Gear is 9 (foolish, I know). The lines that appear on screen differ each time it's turned on. It also reacts weirdly to the BRIGHTNESS wheel, the lines flicker. Without the cart, the screen gets consistently bluer.

3rd picture - the screen seems to be dead. It does not react to anything. It was in that state when I got it. The capacitors were replaced, but it didn't help.

4th picture - Shinobi level select
5th picture - same console, no cartridge. With this, the story is the same as the first one, except the lines and flickering were already there when I got it.

6th picture - it's the best one I got. The only problem are the dead red and green pixels.

Does anyone know if these problems are fixable and maybe how to fix them? Thanks in advance for any help.

Quite honestly, unless the wrong caps were used, or the cartridge slot is very dirty, it would be more worth your time getting a new working one. Or if all of the caps werent replaced then the old ones could have failed after the fact.

the 2nd picture one might have issues with the power board. the 3rd one is definitely shot, and the 6th one is also shot.

If the screen's gone, the screen's gone. Replace it (expensive) or get another Game Gear.

Using a "wrong" voltage adaptor varying 3 volts to the + side won't hurt it at all.

I use a PS2 slim PSU with my Tec Toy GG (look where I am from) and it works great without any modding.

Here's the hint: PS2 Slim PSU (8.5V positive on center) works great for 2nd Gen SEGA stuff like the GG, MD2 and 32X.

Edit: My console is just like you 6th one. And I just live with it.

I have a "majesco" one which had a third of the screen dead. I removed the screen and will TV mod it one day.

TV modding a gg is the key!

Not for the faint-hearted, though - unless you buy a pre-made board, I guess.

I really should get around to doing it to my original Game Gear - broke the screen about 15 years ago and it's been sitting there ever since!
