Hello everyone, For a restoration project, I am looking for some specific screws of a Japanese standard measure. The screws in question are of this exact type: JIS Bind Head M3 x 6mm The material appears to be zinc-plated steel, which has that yellow-ish appearance, with pink-purple hues. The conundrum is that, while the standard JIS screws have one "dot" on their head, as you can see these ones have two "dots", which I just cannot find anywhere. Would anyone be able to help me with this search, especially someone in Japan? Thanks in advance! Jollyroger
A little while back I saw a great video where a guy reproduced a knurled thumb screw for some old piece of equipment from a steel dowel in 10 hours or so. I imagine you could reproduce your screw with a hand drill in under 10 minutes.
If you have already established that they are of a standard type, what is stopping you from using those? Are you interested in preserving the authenticity of the parts (including the screws) installed?
You are correct. I have performed a full strip down and rebuild of the GSBox, and found that many screws were missing from the outer case. I intend to restore it as authentically as possible to its original form, consider that I have already sourced duplicates for all parts that were commercially available at the time (motherboard, CPU, two power supplies, RAM modules, HDD drive, video card, floppy drive, network card), so I can have spares in case any of the parts stop working. Therefore I am trying to also source the exact screws that were used to build it. I already purchased from a Japanese supplier the most similar screws I could find, and while they are of the exact same dimensions and type (same plating too), they don't look exactly the same (one "dot" instead of two on the head). Rebuilding the box I used the new screws on the inside of the machine, leaving the original screws on the outside, where they can be seen, but I would still like to find a supply of those same screws...
