I've got this brand new console from japan yahoo. The seller don't know about its region. First I thought it's a EU PALversion, because its box design.but the system style is seems completely as same as the JAP version, which is not like the common EU version with red power switch and red LED light the power supply is 220Volt and with one six buttons controller according to the orange board color and the license info appearing when it turn on,It's not like a clone system And the system has a region lock can only play the EU PAL games,I tired some games like Comix zone(U) and Yu Yu Hakusho(J) they are not work Finally I used my everdrive cart,It can detect the device info, and it said EU PAL So is it a original EU system? PLS help me! The serial on the box is MK-1998-20 and -20 is for Netherland. I've never seen -07 before. Could you open the megadrive can take pics of the pcb please ?
yes,it's sure like the asia version, but some japan game can not run, and I thought the asia version should no problem with those japan games
Asian does NOT mean Japanese (and don't ever let a Japanese person hear you call them Asian ). Think of it like UK and France... they're right there next to each other, but they're completely incompatible.
First pic is a fake/Chinese clone Mega Drive. SEGA never used those "Q.C. Passed" stickers and the look of the plastic case is pretty shoddy. Not to mention that the sticker looks just as shoddy as the case. The angle does not allow to see what the board inside is like, but SEGA used a board where the substract is brown on Southeastern Asia products (similar boards to what they used in Japan, just that it was setup as Domestic/PAL instead of Domestic/NTSC. Bottom one is legitmate.
it is asian pal system. i have 3 asian md2. one japanese ntsc and two asian pal, like yours. all of them based on pcb va1 but not same as euro va1 and without methal shields
Hey this is an Official Portugese sega MEGADRIVE guys This is an easy one, 1st this is an Official sega megadrive sold exclusivly in portugal. internally the board should be marked sega. There are three revisions - the 1st (which i believe is your one) 2nd - identicle packaging but underneath the console if you use a pin you can flip a switch soldered straight on to the motherboard to change region. This is the most popular version in Portugal. 3rd - my personnal favourite - has an official factory chip that automatically changes the region when the cartridge is placed into the console. :love2: only drawback is that with no switches the console remains in 50hz mode. all 3 consoles are 100% sega licenced
Those Joypasd look horriblely fake, they are too long compared to a real one and the start button is far too blue and the start button text far too big. As Games did sometime have both the Japanese and English text in the game (Streets of Rage / Bare Knuckle for example...), how would the console know what would the right region be? I imagine it has a switch near the cartridge door which changes the region as Japanese cartridges are fatter at the sides. It does sound more like a pirate console.
This sounds similar to what I've seen on a certain specific model of the Tec Toy "Mega Drive III" (Mega Drive 2 outside Brazil): There's the empty place for a switch on it which allows for 50/60hz switching. Since one of the positions is marked as supposedly change the video norm to PAL-N I assume it was meant for sale in Argentina ...
I didn't mention NTSC AT ALL. PAL-M/N would be it. Both are PAL but M follows the US air broadcast system "M" so it's 60hz. Carrier is 3.575611Mhz PAL-N is similar to what's used in Europe but color carrier is 3.58205625 MHz. I *suspect* that they use US style broadcast frequencies just like us here in Brazil. So all the switch did was change color carrier and VDP mode.
The Attack of The Clones Here's the 2008 Argintina version of the Genesis 3. This is a 3rd party console made by Flatbrand - a Tectoy style company (the back of the box says) - for use with all Sega megadrive games universal :-0
I got the exact same system as the OP and its a fake MD. The PCB is extremely small, the controls are cheap fake and the sound is a little rubbish compared to a real MD.
Well, it's not the same because the OP system is a legitimate Asian Mega Drive-II. The second post with pictures has an fake Mega Drive-II on it...
Never said you did, just noting what mine did. You don't often see PAL hardware in my neck of the woods unless it was a PS2 chipped in Kuwait and owned by a US government employee out of Travis AFB...
I came across this on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-BOXED...1018244464792287352&pid=100017&prg=1006&rk=1& I presume these are just like the OP's. Any word on the quality, if its good?
See my new thread, I have just bought one from that eBay link. Interested to see what people think. The quality seems fine to me.
