Well, I can see that politicians are getting pissy about crime in games.

"From what Atari's putting out, it appears they want to make crime exciting and to teach children how to get away with breaking the law," declared Vallone in a statement issued from his offices. "I'm just glad they aren't giving out cans of spray paint with this game. I think irresponsible corporations like Atari must get the message loud and clear, we don't want them supporting criminals and punks and if they do we won't support them."

Wow...I mean, this game isn't even that well known (or even that bad in terms of content), but why the hell is he getting pissed off over a graffiti game?

Lord, I can see we are heading the way of Australia with games.

Why not outlaw all sucky games? It'll very likely be the same games, but not be a "moral outrage" matter - but a "quality control" one.

The buzzword in 1995 was "murder simulator". Instead of videogame, pundits used that very centered and not-at-all-biased term.
Talk about fair and balanced, huh?

Then again, companies ARE pushing the envelope to sell more copies of their utter tripe. I don't give a fuck about their games, to tell you the truth, but I think this will affect everyone else's freedom of expression. THAT's what worries me. I'm not at all for their content, but I'll die for their freedom to make it (if the ESRB laws are enforced and fairly followed without hipocrisy from vendors)

yieeha, another politics versus video games thread.
Don't make grafities in the virtual world kids, or else you'll go to virtual jail, and certainly hell.

i'm tired of all these american politicians trying to get points with the excuse of defending kids. it's the fault of the compagny who published this game! WRONG! then....uh, its the fault of the compagny who made the game! WRONG! it's the fault of the parents who don't read or just don't care about the ratings on the box of the game. I'm really getting tired of this. it is not because there's some vegetarians in this world that we will cencure every dinner in a film involving a steak, or anything related to meat.

we can do pornos, we can see boobs in a movie rated 8+, but can't see a sex scene involving nothing else than a pile of polygons and a couple of bad textures in a video game. and even if there's no sex scene in the final product, it will still get bashed because someone thought of it.

Why the hell is video games so hated? i mean, you can do anything in a film, it will just make it's rating higher, but you can't do anything in a video, because, well, it will be rated higher, but no one, even politicians, will care about this 'cause it's a video game! and video games is a synonym of really influencable kids, remember?

a film rated 16+ is alright, cause it's rated 16+, but a game rated 17+ will be bashed to death, 'cause it's a video game.

My thoughts exactly. Should we all take this discussion to the San Andreas AO thread?

Not that there's much more to beat out of this dead horse, but it's cool to stay informed on the subject.

But yeah, politicians VS. Games for political profit... that's so 1995!

It's like this anywhere in the world. They need to find an excuse to explain the violence, drugs and so on. It's easier to blame a game than the whole society system.

A 10 year kid killed it's friend with a pistol? Blame a gun game and not their stupid parents for not securing their gun in a safe.

In 99% of all cases of "Blame the game" it's the fault of the parents and of our society. I don't know about you, but i always had parents that cared about me. When i say this i mean they were always interested in my school stuff, friends, and even my opinions.

After watching "Bowling for Columbine" you see how stupid humans can be. The interview with Marylin Manson is great.

Anyway, it's just like TV. Show a woman in lingerie or microscopic bikini? No problem! In topless? No problem. Show their nipples? NO THAT'S WRONG.

    It's a crazy world indeed...
