Well, I guess Nintendo have agents that are everywhere... This happened a veeeeeeeeery looooooooong time ago. I think back in the year 1996. I was 7 years old at a party. There were many balloons there. I think it was a wedding. Anyway, before I was about to leave with my parents, then I wrote a letter to Nintendo: =================================== Dear Nintendo, I wish you would release Donkey Kong Country 3. =================================== (This was right when Donkey Kong Country 2 for the SNES came out.) I then tied the rope of a balloon onto the letter, went outside, then let it go. There were other kids there, but they didn't know it was a letter to Nintendo (Maybe Santa Clause, hehe). Anyway, months later, I recieved a Preview video on Diddy Kong Racing for the N64. Wow! I never sent anything in my life to Nintendo for them to send me that! My parents didn't even know I sent a letter to Nintendo on a balloon. Weeks later, another Video. It was on Banjo-Kazooie. Weeks later, Pokémon (Before it even came out in the US). The last one weeks later, a vid on Jet Force Gemini & Donkey Kong 64. I guess someone who worked for Nintendo found my letter & decided to send me stuff. P.S. Someday, I'll get a video capture card & release the vids on the net.
Meh, your parents probably put on an act and got a hold of them. Did you write down your adress on the Baloon?
Weird stuff. Coincidence... or Espionage? The world may never now! (or maybe your parents saw what you wished written on the letter and then requested the stuff from nintendo themselves...?)
oh my god that fucking crazy. yesturday i found that same preview video for diddy kong racing laying in the alleyway behind my house, i just finished watching it not a minute ago. its pretty good stuff, i liked that one cracked out reporter screaming into the camera.
Creepy! I've seen the Donkey Kong 64 and Diddy Kong videos at various local thrift stores and such, but never thought about picking them up - are they any good? Maybe we should petition Orwell's estate to have the catchphrase changed to, "Brother Miyamoto is watching you."
I remember pre-ordering Donkey Kong Country for the SNES, it came with a preview video of the game and it came with a Nintendo sponsored Go Ape! music C.D full of decent stuff like Primal Scream ...I still have them to this day!
I used to get those videos as well, only it was because I preordered at Toys 'R Us. Since they asked for my address, I guess they sent it to Nintendo's advertisement department (Or whatever junk mail advertisers they sent it to).
Ah, that sounds familiar now. I remember my dad secretly buying me Super Mario 64 from Toys R Us & also got me Diddy Kong Racing. I guess he must have filled out information for Nintendo to start sending me vids.
Still, the balloon thing is kinda romantic. Next time I'm stuck on a desert island I'll be sure to use that one bottle and one piece of paper to write to Nintendo.
