I was told that not all NES games released in the States were factory sealed but I had a hard time finding a complete list that says which were and which weren't. I was able to find lists of licensed games but not sure if that meant that unlicensed ones were not sealed. Can anyone give me their 2 cents on this? Better still, can I have a complete list of NES games that were factory sealed when released? Thanks!
I don't think you'll ever find a complete list. My only guess would be that the older the game the less likely it was sealed in plastic. I would think games that came out during the 90s would be more likely to be sealed. But I can't really say. I only really remember buying Mega Man 4, 5, and 6 for NES and I can't even remember if there was plastic on them. It was far too long ago.
It is my belief that all official US NES games were originally factory sealed with a tear strip. I am 80% sure.
so tell us Taucias, how can you be 80% sure, and not 79%? or 81%? what is the mathematical formula used to appreciate sureness on a subject? *quickly leaves the room*
Meany. ;-) I must agree with Taucias though, I am pretty sure they were..... infact... I am 79% positive. :icon_bigg
What good are friends if you can't pick on them for no apparent reason? On that note.. I can't comment on the topic, since my country's distributor used its own custom tape around the products (ITOCHU HELLAS at the time)
Although I am using /100 marks, I go in increments of 10. Unlike many useless magazines and websites that give 8.91/10 (NOT AN AVERAGE!). Madness!
I was told by some DP members that even the Sachen and Panesian games were factory sealed. Is that true?
The difference is in the shrink wrap, the "official" carts had this special way of shrinking the carts that is near impossible to counterfeit. You can tell by the material too most times. Sealed games are a bit of a joke, the cello is just going to come apart eventually, it's not meant for long term storage. half the time it will yellow the box as well. Unless you have a nitrogen system and can keep them stored to prevent the decay (no oxygen) it's pretty much just time before they flake away.
Surely some of the collectors here would have dark sealed climate controlled rooms they can pump nitrogen in to keep their fresh minty games in perfect condition. I am fairly certain in the UK that not all cartridges had the Nintendo seal shrink wrap, especially at the start.
Some in Canada were sealed with a black circlular sticker. I don't know of any that were not sealed they just differ in the seal. I bought out a storage locker which belonged to American Technos and some games were sealed without the verticle seam on the back so a verticle seam doesn't always have to be there.
I don't know the longevity of the shrink wrap but I still have a few PAL NES games in their shrink wrap and they look and feel as good as the day I bought them (back in 1990-ish I think).
