Were DC white labels sealed & which game is this guy from?

Well, the topic pretty much says it - I don't think I've seen a sealed Dreamcast white label game yet, so were they passed out sealed or just as bare discs in (random?) cases (besides some from Acclaim)? I've seen some sealed 'not for (re-)sale' games, if factory sealed or not - I'm not really sure. But then why wouldn't they also have sealed the white labels?

For the other thing, I've found a few .pvr files containing some kind of 'apeish' character, and I was wondering if somebody might have played the game in which he appeared:

It's a quick & dirty MS-Paint montage of the original pictures, but you get a good idea of what he looked like.

    Thanks!

Where did the PVR file come from? Was it on a dev kit's hard drive or from somewhere else?

It sort of looks like Unreal Tournament, but it could be from a game like Shadowman or Prince of Persia.

They came in slim line CD-R cases or sometimes in normal CD sized cases. Usually without an insert. At least the PAL ones I saw were like that (white labels sent to videogame stores).

Dreamcast: a hard drive, but I don't seem to remember him from UT - haven't played Shadowman and PoP though, so he might very well come from there.

Taucias: I see, thanks. So they weren't sealed?

Some were but most were not. At least, not when they arrived at stores.

I thought it looked extremely familiar: [link]. Do you have anymore files, like the ELF / BIN of the actual tech demo?

Looks like it might be a PVR from the unreleased Chakan.

Oh wow, I didn't think I'd actually find files from an unreleased game on that HDD... nice.
I was able to restore some additional files, which I'll be posting soon - I just have to find & hook up the right HDD.
Do you think I should post those files in here or should I open a thread in the 'Unreleased' section?

Only PSO was a sealed white label.

A new thread for a release is usually the way.

Fantastic of you to share, by the way, many thanks. Maybe someone out there could build it into something playable, depending on how far it got.

I'm glad if I can contribute a bit.
Don't get your hopes up too far though, I did recover some files but I don't really think there's anything of too much use in there.
However, I don't have any experience in recovering DC projects, so who knows - I'll dig the HDD out tomorrow and see what's on there.

wombat: Don't get me wrong, but is that a fact? Could you link to some kind of proof, or is that more 'common knowledge'?

Not Iron Maiden, but KISS: Psycho Circus. I'd say that is from some build of Chakan, with 99% certainty given the hair color and same gauntlet design on the arms. Also, if you look at the Genesis cover art, he has the same facial features and red eyes.

White labels were usually in plain slim CD cases as mentioned before. We never received them sealed at the shop.

Do you know which company the hardware came from? That would certainly narrow it down.

I think as Wombat said, only the PSO white labels were sealed. Silver promo games were sealed with a green sample sticker.

Just to clarify that: it IS Chakan - and possibly another game with an equally strange sounding name iirc.
I remember seeing the folder structure, and one of the folders was definately named something very, very similar to 'Chakan'. And the character in the Youtube video linked above is definately the guy from the .pvrs.

I am also curious about those silvers. And what about those sealed PAL Games with white 'Not for Resale' Stickers on the case, were these store samples too?

More than just PSO, but few were sealed.

Yeah, I can verify this. I have the sealed ones.
