I don't know why I'm posting this, or if anyone really cares...but I just saw an advertisement for King of Fighters: Maximum Impact. Two characters from KOF were standing there in a gymnasium with workout equipment and such...they were paper cutouts...and they started talking about how King of Fighters is going 3D. ::cue a bunch of videos of the game:: The end. Seems a bit strange.
Hmm...I was either watching comedy central or Cartoon network when I saw it...but I'm thinking comedy central.
I wish someone rip it and make it available on the internet, because I have absolutely no chance of seeing this on TV
I love SNK and I do own a Neo Geo arcade board as well as some games like the Slugs and some KOF's. To me, SNK has (up until this summer) represented an old school haven for gamers with their 2D fighters and Metal Slug games. Granted, the Neo games/hardware was expensive, but I can't tell you how refreshing it was to be able to expect at least a new KOF each year in light of all the 3D stuff that's been coming out on modern consoles. In a way, these commercials are a cheap attempt at breaking the "2D only" stigma that SNK was associated with the last 14 years. They're going 3D mainly to appeal to modern gamers, which is somewhat sad, but that's what they have to do to survive. Ironically enough, the last SNK attempt to go 3D was a miserable failure. For those who care, that was the HYPER NEO GEO 64 hardware that SNK attempted to switch over to in 1997. It failed and less than 10 games were made for it.
Agreed. Seeing the new 3D Metal Slug game doesn't give me much hope either. Sort of gives me memories of when Castlevania and Contra went 3D and we all know how those games ended up... <Shudder> :smt009
