As the title says, I'm looking for some entertaining Game Gear games, but not sure what I should get. I've got a few GG games already, but they are real boring to play after you have played them before. A list of recommendations would help , if possible. Thanks.
Well, I like anything with Sonic in the title...well...the side scrolling ones anyway... The Shinobi games are really fun...Streets of rage is alright...Mortal Kombat is fun if you're into ancient handheld fighting games... I'd say your best bet is Shinobi 2...its amazing.
The Mickey Mouse game (Castle of Illusion) was pretty fun despite being a launch title. Clutch Hitter is fun if you like baseball. Ax Battler is an OK attempt at an RPG with Golden Axe style fighting.
GG Shinobi I & II GG Aleste * GG Aleste II (Powerstrike II) * Gunstar Heroes * Puyo Puyo 2 Ariel (Crystal Warriors) Sonic 1 & 2 Magical Puzzle Popils (my personal favorite GG game ) *these games are also highly valued collectibles
I really liked Sonic Chaos. Then again, I've got that and Columns, and Sonic 2 isn't that... good, but isn't bad either. There's a Joe Montana football game that I recall being quite good. If you like football, that is...
Indeed. It is quite good...though the CPU AI is pretty lame. Not uncommon to rack up huge scores once you figure out the various passing routes.
I don't like the first two 8-bit sonic games, but Sonic Chaos and Triple Trouble I like a lot, they play really differently form your average Sonic game, more emphasis on technique and exploration. The other Sonic games are shit in plastic. There's actually quite a lot of good platformers on the Game Gear (there were so many good platformers released back then for all systems). The highlights are Castle Of Illusion, Land Of Illusion (but not Legend Of Illusion), Lucky Dime Caper, Ristar, Aladdin, The Lion King, etc. You'll notice that all those games are ports, either direct ports of Master System games or downports of Genesis games. That's the way things are on the Game Gear. For RPGs, there's Defenders Of Oasis, which is in the Oasis series (Beyond Oasis and Legend Of Oasis) but is turn-based unlike the other two games. Also while I've never played it, I know that a lot of people like Crystal Warriors. And of course, there's the Shining Force game, too, though I never could afford that. I think there's also a Game Gear port of Wonder Boy The Dragon's Trap, which was one of the best games ever on the SMS, so it should be just about as good on the Game Gear. I also highly recommend the GG version of Samurai Shodown if you can find it. In my opinion, it's a better SS game than the Neo Geo Pocket versions even. Very good. There's a Star Trek The Next Generation game that I always found myself playing a lot back when I owned a Game Gear. Fantasy Zone Gear I've only ever played in emulators, which obviously isn't the best way to play handheld games, but it was fun as Fantasy Zone games always are, so get that one if you like wild and crazy not to mention crazy hard shooters. And yeah, I agree with everyone who recommended the Shinobi GG games. They're pure style. Probably my favorite Shinobi games after the Shin Shinobi Den, in fact. ..word is bondage...
Thanks for all the recommendations everyone. I've compiled a huge list of games over the past few days that I would like to obtain, and put all the Game Gear games you all suggested on there, minus Sonic 2, Sonic Chaos, and Wonderboy(already own). Thanks again.
Yes Sonic Chaos! I remember liking Tazmania for some odd reason on GG. Don't forget Monster World II! Edit: oh and Tempo Jr
gunstar heroes, super colums and dr.robotnik mean bean machine (or puyo puyo) all the way. Look for sonic games too.
Tempo Jr or Fatal Fury Special are both pretty good. Fatal Fury Special is very good !! Far better than any Neo Geo Pocket fighter and that's no bull !! Looks great, sounds okish but plays like a dream ! Yakumo
ninja gaiden had an exclusive GG version on there that was pretty good The SORs for GG rocked big time. Mortal Kombats were ok, but the AI sucked. My fav baseball was Majors Pro Baseball (with at a point came with the system) you know, if you dont like a lot of these, go get a Master System Converter so you can play the old school Sega on there. Good Luck
