I've been wanting to get into collecting sega genesis games and was wondering what some good games for the system are?
It gets a lot of flack but I really enjoyed Pac Man 2. Just for its sheer hilarity and really pleasant colors and art style.
(why not not waste a post count?! about to make a crater soon...) ... in no particular order: .... biohazard battle empire of steel gleylancer mega swiv contra III earthworm jim I and II thunderforce II, III, and IV resq wiz n liz (^^ any psygnosis game for the megadrive was a letdown vs the amiga versions, still good games none the less) risk woods crue ball alien soldier alien III (better music on the CBM series) predator ren and stimpy boogerman - pick and flick adventure (dirty bastard title if ever there was one) sonic spinball (and get to trash robotnik's teeth in a bonus level) ....... ...... as stated in a response above this, FAR too many belters to list! (and the megadrive/genesis did have a gorgeous selection of parallax shooters of all kinds) now i'm off to do stuff that's INCREDIBLY stupid. (and perhaps substance fueled?) have fun! :friendly_wink:
mercs, thunder force 4, gleylancer, street of rage 2, sonic 2, shinobi: shadow dancer, Wonder Boy in Monster World, phantasy star IV, Shining in the Darkness , Ranger X, E-swat, Ghostbuster, Castlevania Bloodlines, tiny toon, Quackshot...too many good games on genesis/megadrive
I will add Ristar. This is a really good platformer made by Sonic Team. It is a beautiful game and has amazing music. It also has some challenging bonus stages. Racketboy has some good articles on this subject. Their prices are a little out of date, but generally the Genesis prices have remained stable (except Konami games). Genesis games under $10: http://www.racketboy.com/retro/sega/genesis/the-best-sega-genesis-games-under-10 Sega CD games under $10: http://www.racketboy.com/retro/sega/segacd/the-cheapest-sega-cd-games-worth-your-time Rare and valuable Genesis titles. Generally the terms rare and valuable go together, but there are plenty of rare non-valuable games: http://www.racketboy.com/retro/sega...nd-most-valuable-sega-genesis-megadrive-games Shmups on the Genesis (one of my fave genres): http://www.racketboy.com/retro/sega/genesis/the-sega-genesis-megadrive-shmup-library
I recommend getting the 6 Pak, which features Super Hang On, Sonic 1, Columns, Streets of Rage, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, and Golden Axe. That is a great starter cart.
Try out Sword of Vermillon whenever you get the chance! it's a pretty great game for what it was imo! and yeah it's a RPG genre hybrid & kinda innovating for it's time back in the day.
Toejam and Earl 1 and 2 if you have someone to play with (especially 1, I love that game) Road Rash 1 (Genesis version has great music. I don't care so much for the sequels) Ecco 1 and 2 Lion King Aladdin Quackshot Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine / Puyo Puyo Sonic 1, 2, 3, CD Haunting Ms. Pacman Taz 1 and 2 Xmen 1 and 2 (Hard games, but still fun) I'm sure there are some I can't think of right now. ...now I feel like playing all these.
How about the Shining Force series. A turn base RPG. Kinda neat that you could have up to 15 different people in a party. =hugh
Warsong aka Langrisser and Langrisser II are pretty awesome. Dragon's Fury is another one not mentioned yet.
I enjoyed Talmits Adventure, it get's hard as hell but it's a fun game to play, I think it's called Marvel Land in the US.
rocket knight adventures (dont bother with the sequal though) any treasure game el viento granada m u s h a ristar any sonic game on the genesis (except 3d blast that one was meh) castle of illusion staring mickey mouse world of illusion shinning force 1 and 2 streets of rage series golden axe series (yes even 3) pulseman (if you can find a reproduction cart of it because it was only relesed in japan outside of sega channel) toe jam and earl (the sequal was meh though) thunder force IV
>Good Genesis Games toplel.jpg Nah, but seriously. I'd suggest the Street Fighter II ports, alongside Fatal Fury and Samurai Shodown. Also, since it hasn't been mentioned yet due to people being silly, Castlevania Bloodlines.
