I'm looking to explore the Dreamcast library and one of my favorite genres is survival horror. I'm a huge Resident Evil fan so I'd love games along those lines. I've also played Blue Stinger and Carrier and enjoyed both of those. So what do you recommend? ** Also what about some good platformers like Ninja Gaiden for the NES?
The voice acting and lip synching are almost unbearable by today's standards, but I really liked Carrier. It had a nice atmosphere, a decent story, and was more enjoyable than most RE games. If you're one of those folks who love Deadly Premonition, I would recommend Sinya Nishigaki's games (Blue Stinger and Illbleed), since I swear SWERY is Nishigaki reincarnated (or is actually him and he faked is death). Edit: Whoops, guess I should read original posts first. Since you've played Blue Stinger and Carrier, all that's really left that's worth noting is Illbleed.
There isn't all too much survival horror left. If you ignore the Resident Evil games for Dreamcast, you'll probably end up stumbling over Illbleed which was only released in Japan and the American market. It's pretty over the top and doesn't take itself all too seriously, but it's still horror.
I haven't played IllBleed so I'll give that a go. How about some good platformers? One of my favorite series for any system is NES Ninja Gaiden. Anything along those lines?
If you liked Carrier then you'll love The Ring. I had the Japanese version and that game does give you chills when played at night. Also, there's Nanatsu No Hikan Senri No Bishou from Koie but you may need to use a players guide to complete that due to the amount of Japanese text. It's full of puzzles like those found in the original Bio Hazard games.
D2 (d no shokutaku 2 in Japan) is kind of survival horror, it does have elements of a few genres but I love survival horrors and I thought it was great!
Chu Chu Rocket gave me nightmares, could that be classed as a survival horror? don't think shadowman counts either its more of a action game was Dino Crisis not available on the Dreamcast? evil dead: hail to the king alone in the dark new nightmare thats all i can thunk of right now
I think that goes without saying. At least games these days have good English voice acting unlike the Dreamcast generation or anything before it. Unfortunatly the Ring is in English so even the Japanese version is stuck with that piss poor voice acting.
Survival Horror is the genre & you have to type to survive! Horror? I am sure it could scare. . . someone. Sure, why not? Ha, either way, that is a sweet game despite what at first might seem like a let down.
I looked up a couple reviews on YouTube and it seems like a creepy game. The bits I saw showed the main character going through dark areas with only a flashlight to provide light. Thanks man I'll have to pick this one up!
Zombie Revenge is sort of a survival horror game. It has zombies, anyway. I enjoyed it when I played it in the arcade, although I haven't played it in years.
