I think my knowledge of truly great 32-bit game music is mostly limited to Squaresoft games of the era. Can you list some stand-outs? I've always liked "The Stone-Like" from Ikaruga And the theme to Wild Arms.
Gotta love Parasite Eve 2 man. But a non-Squaresoft game? Perhaps the Resident Evil series, even the Dino Crisis series. Fear Effect 1 & 2 had good soundtracks.
How about various tracks from Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Castlevania Chronicles, and Mega Man X4 & X5? There are also some cool remixes in the Playstation Rockman 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 ports. Star Ocean the Second Story had some good tunes, that's Enix not Square Soft. You did mention Ikaruga, but that isn't from the "32bit generation" as most define it. The 32bit generation is considered to include the PS1, Sega Saturn, and N64 primarily. However the 3DO and Atari Jaguar probably also are in that block. Also called the fifth generation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_video_game_consoles_(fifth_generation)
Alundra. Breath of Fire 4, Legend of Kartia, Metal Gear Solid, Soul Reaver, Vandal Hearts & Wild Arms would be my additions to the list.
Radiant Silvergun, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Ape Escape, and to add to the Parappa mayhem Vib Ribbon just for the intro tutorial song.
Any of the Panzer Dragoon games. I'm particularly partial to Yoshitaka Azuma's classic score for the original.
Yeah Alundra has some great music, such an under appreciated game. Castlevania Symphony of the Night was a particular favourite one of mine for the music. Metal Gear Solid also had an amazing score.
Totally right about Ikaruga not being 32-bit, so let me replace that selection with Return from Radiant Silvergun. Some great selections in this thread. That Alundra score (I listened to most of it this morning) is FANTASTIC.
Metal gear solid ,one specific song on the album i like the best is called : ,the best is yet to come
Shinobi X (PAL version) - Saturn.
Came here to say Thunder Force V. Rockman X4 and X5 had awesome soundtracks as well. Wild Arms and Wild Arms 2 had some fantastic tracks as well. I'm also very fond of Alundra, Tales of Eternia, and the original Guilty Gear
