Sorry to disappoint, I'd rather not make my name extremely public, and I wouldn't consider any of the games I worked on as earth shattering, I am sure you understand. Having said that, I was lucky enough to work on many interesting platforms between the early nineties and the mid 2000s and I got to understand the quirks and strengths of each; that was most definitely a pleasure and I still have very fond memories of my games development days, so much so that my small "collection" of development kits includes pretty much all the machines I even published a game on...
I found out about ASSEMblergames because I was reading about obscure and unreleased game hardware, and that led me to the old roarvgm site. I found that site really interesting, so then I decided to check out the forum, and I made an account. That was about 12 years ago. This site used to be great. Unfortunately, that's no longer the case, and that seems to be the permanent situation now. Kevin asserted over and over that this is temporary and that soon everything will be back to normal, but any reasonable person who's been here for a long time can see that idea is totally delusional. So, things will probably continue to decline unless Kevin suddenly decides to give a shit, which seems unlikely since he seems to have virtually no involvement at all now. He has no involvement – yet he's the sole person in control of the entire site. Yeah...
First visit roughly 7 years ago when visiting an old thread about the FFVII CG Collection DVD. A few years went by and then I came upon Assembler Games again when I was looking for a way to set my modded PS2 console to Japanese, seeing as the language option wasn't available by any normal means. A person on Assembler Games had been working on a "Region Faker" application. I messaged them and gratefully received this functional workaround. Didn't start frequently browsing the forum until 2-3 years after the PS2 venture though. I think it's because up until that point I was too intimidated by the technical aspects of esoteric game- and console research.
Eleven years ago, someone here (@Dot50Cal) was trying to dump some GD-Rs. I happened to be messing around with dumping GD-Rom with a PC drive using a swap trick, which gave me an idea to dump GD-Rs using a retail Dreamcast. I created an account just to help him with that, we ended up publishing a tutorial together based on my idea. And this, kids, is how I entered the DC scene.
Figured it would be a good place to share devlogs and post research. Saw a bunch of smart cookies posting about smart dreamcast stuff.
My obsession with video games and rare hardware/software led me to the youtube channel and then to here. Still wonder what Kevin hasn't sent us images of yet...
So it was you! lol I bought a Dreamcast broadband adapter back then when I saw this tutorial. Thanks! I didn't register until a couple of years ago. Before, I thought the forum was too "elite" for me, until I realized I could contribute. Thanks to my years of messing with weird, rare consoles and games.
