You can use it to develop and debug Dreamcast games and of course also play the majority of retail games on it. You can't play Atomiswave \ Naomi with it.

You can, however, play Playstation 4 games on it if you can find the very hard to find CUH-100*A add-on...

    I think it's a forum mistake.

Thanks Wombat, also what's the Naomi dev kit?

Details about the NAOMI dev kit are very scarce, apparently it's a combination of the Dreamcast dev kit and some unknown hardware.

Why it´s so difficult to develop a 3D game that make good use of the DC hardware with Katana?

Because it's basically a full-time job for a professional software development team?

Nowadays it's easier to make 3D DC-like games on PC because the tools are very modern and advanced. But they're also very unoptimized and unfit for old consoles.

Give a modern game studio Katanas and a team and they'd do a fine job in a year or so...

Thx for the answer! I don´t know too much about this topic, but with the Katana Devkit is not possible to use the source code or the graphic engine of a game (for example Shenmue, Test Drive LeMans, Sonic Adventure 2, etc) and modify it to create a new game?

It would be possible to reuse a pre-existing engine, yes. Companies do that all the time. But you need the source to do this, and those are not public.

Even with a full-featured engine, it's still quite hard and time-demanding to develop a full game on any console.

Too bad...I think DC reach it´s 15 years in America and Europe this year...Sega should make public some source code, a la Id with the old Id Tech...May be with that, we can finally see the real DC top capabilities and enjoy newer stuff taking full advatage of DC hardware...
