I was wondering what cheat devices are there for consoles? The only ones I ever used were for the N64, they were an Xplorer 64, and an Equaliser, which were basically PAL variants along the lines of the N64 Gameshark (each one was a cartridge that plugged into the N64 like a game's cartridge, then you plugged the game's cartridge (for the game you wanted to hack, of course) into the Xplorer (or Equaliser), and you could type in hacking codes, or use ones that were pre-stored in the device's database. They could only hack the contents of the RAM of course (and so not alter the game's code on the cartridge, of course), but they were pretty powerful, allowing you to search for codes as the game ran, and you could create codes that would use combinations of the N64's joypads' buttons to activate codes whenever you chose, meaning that you could, say, give all weapons in a game full ammunition every time you pressed a certain A + Left Shoulder Button, if you liked. Really clever hackers used to find things like beta levels or weapons and make them available to the player, or even to mod levels in games. If I remember rightly, I bought the Equaliser first, but it was unable to cope with a couple of Perfect Dark's single player levels (Rare, who made the two games, apparently did some very clever things with the N64's memory, which could confuse earlier Gameshark devices), so I bought the Xplorer 64 which was better in some ways, and more compatible, but, I seem to recall that the Equaliser did something better (no idea now...). The only problem with the N64 Gameshark-type devices, aside from the limitation of them only (of course) being able to alter the contents of the N64's RAM, is how unreliable they were. They were infamous for it, with many of them dying over time even though they weren't misused, and even when working they could occasionally refuse to boot up for no apparent reason, or even crash the game when using perfectly safe codes. Luckily, mine never died, but they were unreliable at times. So, what cheat devices existed for other consoles? And why don't such devices exist for modern consoles, or seemingly anything after the original XBox? I know you can get discs full of game saves, and even save game editors, but that's not the same thing at all.
