I'm seriously considering getting a modchip. I really wanted to play that game in its unsensored glory. Has anyone experimented with Wii Modchipping? What Modchip has the mod advantages (ala which would you reccommend?) What protocalls do I have to undergo... I know with 360 a second xbox is a must. What about for Wii? should I buy a second Wii? Does anyone think Nintendo will goto microsoft like "banning" or ruining customers consoles because they modded it?
If you are wanting to pick up a import version of Manhunt 2, then you might as well wait for the Freeloader that Datel is making.
What's the point in playing it on Wii? The graphics are going to be poor, anyway! Hardly uncensored! The PS2 version was leaked, try that and save your poor Wii for cutesy games ;-)
All manhunt 2 are censored he is speaking about that the games can be modified to be uncensored using the recently released signing tool. The new chip wasabi is the way to go, it's the one who is the the most "future proof" I think. Wii scene begin to be interesting, can't wait to see nice hombrew as wii channel Edit: Look like he is speaking about the netherlands version after all, why two topic?
I want this to be more about the Wii Homebrew scene and the quality and availibility of various mod chips. Manhunt 2 is sorta irrelevant and only represents 1 possible game that could be played with a modchip.
Currently only drive chip are available so their only utility is to run burned dvd. I say wasabi cause it's the only chip to be compatible with all drive and the only D2C chip who can control the drive like the D2A/D2B chips.
Last year I installed a WiiFree chip into my Wii. WiiFree is free to download and then you flash it to a chip. It is my understanding that work/updates have halted as far as WiiFree goes but there are other open source chips/programs as well. I honestly think this is the way to go instead of overpriced commercial chips, although I believe only DMS, D2A, and D2B is supported right now. I did not have a chip programmer, so I bought a pre-flashed chip for $6. I wired the corresponding pins to a DB9 serial connector on the outside of my Wii and installed the chip into an opposite end DB9 connector and hood so I can plug the modchip in and out. Also, since WiiFree is dead, I do have the option to try a YAOSM chip since the pinouts are exactly the same. Plug and play modchip....figured it would be smart just in case Nintendo tries to implement chip protection or if I needed an updated modchip. My avatar pic shows the Wii and sloppily placed serial connector and hood. I temporarily pulled the wires through the vent on the bottom because I did not want to cut the case and I never got around to nicely mounting everything in the rear.
I'm using YAOSM too but for people without PIC (and that can't order sample cause of their free email) and that don't own a programmer, it's not realy cheaper. It think that commercial chip is just the easyer way for most people. Also not everybody like to have an external chip witch is a must with PIC family currently used. Big advantage of YAOSM is that it's weekly updated by Bell but most people find it anoying to alway have to reprogram the chip. YAOSM is now updatable via DVD but I think that with all the new protection nintendo add to games I think yaosm will alway need to be updated with programmer at each big nintendo release.
same here, also interested to see if the Wii freeloader is real. All I want to do is import the US No More Heroes as I refuse to play the game censored.
Couple of questions Don't some of the modchips have the feature of making the Wii being able to play DVDs? What else then burning games to a DVD, would someone do? Also what do you mean by "ultility"? I haven't owned a modchip since I had to do the swap trick for PS2 with the gameshark and all that. Is it as simply as putting in burned DVDs and the Wii recongnizing them as games?
From what I have heard a modded Wii can play dvd movies in gamecube mode. And yes no swap trick, just insert your backup and the Wii will recognize it as a game.
All modchip allow the wii to read any DVD, with MFE linux distro you can play dvd movies (I never succeded i think it only play unencrypted dvd) Also with homebrew emulator you games burn a dvd full off games. The utility i'm speaking about can sign/unsign a wii games. This mean that with this tool you cant decrypt the games to see all the games files and edit then, once that done you can re-envrypt the games and burn it after that. So with a modification of one file on the manhunt dvd you can uncensor it for example.
Interesting, so which modchip do you guys think will be the most safe in the future. This is what I'm most concerned about , I do use my Wii online and I don't want nintendo pulling a microsoft and zapping my console... all I really care about is having no swap trick and being able to burn cube and Wii games and play them instantly
I believe all modchips act in this manner. As far as nintendo pulling a microsoft...I dunno...I heard it was impossible since it is a drive mod, but when Mario Galaxy came out, a fix was needed. I believe all current chips run everything.
