So, I downloaded this Android game on my phone called Marble Blast 2. It's pretty fun I guess... But there's something bothering me. Watch this and listen to the music and tell me what you think it is! (I hope i'm not the only one that recognizes it)
Not only did they rip off the gameplay from Zuma (which itself ripped off Puzzloop), they ripped off the music too...phone gaming at its finest.
that creativity. edit; this video got it all when it comes to mobile gaming. bland art and gameplay, monetized ads, plagiarize....
Didn't look at any replies and clicked the vid wondering if it would be something I'd recognise... 3 seconds in I'm thinking "did they rip off Chrono Trigger?" lol.
I am trying to figure out if they rip the music from one of Square's releases of the Zeal theme or an OC Remix version. As I don't think they would gone trouble hiring someone to remix their own version.
It's either the original version from the SNES or its from the Chrono Trigger Resurrection Soundtrack. Song is called "To Far Away Times".
Since it's a free game and not being sold in any way, I don't see much an issue. And it sounds like the original but just pitch shifted
Phone gaming is pretty much a joke IMO. As everyone has said, almost everything has been ripped off from somewhere. They don't even try to cover it up, either. They could have switch a few/more notes, etc. Then again, what do they care about originality.
A significant proportion of mobile games are just viral vectors for ads and/or IAPs. Putting effort into creating original content is time they could spend creating another copycat game. :/
