    Dunno how often I've answered to that sort of question by now, but here is some advice:

    The 2D shooting games are mostly covered in Yakumo's DC STG special:
    http://www.archive.org/details/Retro_Core_Dreamcast_Shooting_Special_2

    Action-Games have mostly been released in pal/us territories. I'd recommend picking up Outtrigger, Headhunter, Gunspike (Cannon Spike), Heavy Metal Geomatrix, Expendable etc.

    Other interesting - JP-only - games that come to my mind:

    * LOL - Lack of Love (riddle rpg w/out text, menus entirely in English)
    * Musapey's Choco Marker (puzzle game)
    * Napple Tale (lovely RPG, can be tricky at times due to the language barrier)
    * the Aero Dancing-series
    * SegaGaga (sega management RPG, I think there's a walkthrough somewhere on the net)
    * the 2D fighters (SF III, third strike, zero 3, garou, last blade 2, gg X, vampire chronicle, chouousenki kikaioh (tech romancer), ...)
    ...

    As for LOL, there can't be any language barrier. In case you don't know, you are playing as a little alien that was sent to a planet in order to evolve. No language/text comes up in the entire game and the load/save menu is in English.
    You're solving the riddles by noticing what kind of help the other animals need. Like, there is a bug trapped in a hole and you go searching for a small stick to get him out. When you level up, you grow and animals that once were gigantic become really tiny. It's quite a lovely game, I played it a lot at my friend's house but couldn't get hold of it so far. Also my Dreamcast died a couple of months ago, so I don't care too much for DC stuff right now -__-

    Oh yeah, some more recommendations:
    * Tokyo Bus Guide (bus simulation, really fun and easy to get into!)
    * Spawn (action hack'n slay)
    * Bomber hehhe! (blaster simulation, place explosives reasonably to try to avoid damage on another building during the blasting. Great game and not much of a language barrier here!)

    I don't know if you like Darkstalkers (I loved that game, as it was a great alternative to Street Fighter 2), but there is an import Darkstalkers game for Dreamcast. Great thing about fighting games, is it's pretty straight forward (pick up and play, like Contra), and I think all the text is in English. Supposedly, this game was online capable.

    A vote for Blue Submarine No.6 here - Tidy submarine exploration game with elements of rpg thrown in (not much, mind) - There's at least one good faq for it over at gamefaqs.

    I second the recommendation for Tokyo Bus Guide :)

    Blue Submarine No.6 is an awesome game, and easy to play for people who can't read Japanese. Also, I love the title of this thread lol.
