edit: apologies if im on the from category, i thought it would fit on the obscure part of devices so here's a deal.. been reading this board now for a couple of days and it really got back my interest towards older and more obscure stuff that i have blatantly been ignoring ever since i got my first PSX back in the day... now, after thinking a bit about the stuff i have before i post in the "post your collections" i remembered an old unit that haven't been used in approximately 18 years and what my older brother said to be an commodore 64 back then (naturally neither myself being 3 years old, or him being 6 years old knew anything about anything) i do know that the unit is far from commodore, but that's pretty much it since it's 3am now, i can't go causing noise while looking for the device itself, so here's a picture of the "floppy" that i have with it. i'll take a picture tomorrow from the unit itself. (assuming that i even find it anymore) for now all i can say is that it's an old bulky looking thing that has a keyboard on it and the "floppydrive" is mounted on the top righ of the device. It also has an external tape drive (normal C casettes). i have a VEREY VERY faint memory of playing a donald duck game on this particular device, which is what led me thinking it's either an obscure "console" or some sort of a primitive PC. here's a pic of the floppy. (both pics from same floppy, it's 2-sided)
it is a "quick disk" http://images.google.com/images?q=quick%20disk&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-USfficial&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi ;-) EDIT: fun fact: The disks used in the famicom disk system are modded quick disks!
based on that i take it that the rig itself must be some sort of a computer rather than a console then ? thanks for the quick reply btw
well, the disk has been sorted out so i'll try to get a hold of a camera and dig up the thing itself and drag off some pictures of it for further analysis with a bit of luck it's even operational still.
The computer is written on the disk, its for Sharp microcomputers from the 80's http://www.sharpmz.org/index.html http://www.old-computers.com/MUSEUM/computer.asp?c=208 Maybe....the same disks were used on Amstrad CPC 6128/464 lines too afaik?
That disc has nothing to do with Commodore. It's the Basic disc for the one of the later computers in the Sharp MZ-700 series from the mid-80s. Similar discs were used in dedicated word processing computers and similar devices here in the US in the 80s, but never by Commodore.
as i stated, i know it's not a commodore. It was just what i was told it was nearly 2 decades ago it appears that im holding a sharp MZ-800 from what i got for talking with a friend about it a bit, but i can't remember the exact look of the rig for the life of me so can't really say for sure. i'll get some pics up possibly tomorrow
You don't really need to post pictures since you were the one asking for help and the "mystery" has been solved and this isn't really a computer collectors site. Just do a google search and there are plenty of on-line computer museums with plenty of photos of your computer.
They were also used on Akai samplers and MIDI Keyboards for storing either samples or MIDI data. I had a pile of them when I had a very old Akai sample unit.
I dug it up now and Bojay1997 was right it's an MZ-800. thanks for all the info and apologies for the off-topic noobishness, i guess i should have used the off-topic area instead.
i took a few ( crappy quality, it's a phone camera ) aside from the fact that it still powers up and the disk and tape drives seem functional, i can't say if it works since i seem to have lost the RGB cable. bummer really, it looked like a nice thing to toy with, being a beast with 3,5 Mhz and all here's a pic, enjoy
