hey guys, for some time now ive been curious, what genesis hardware is inside the jvc x'eye? i know there are many different models of the genesis plus different boards within each model number, some having better sound or video then others etc, but what about the jvc x'eye? is the genesis hardware in the xeye closest to a model 2? i have the xeye and it seems to have a clearer composite signal then my model 1 but also better sound quality then my model 2, making this a frankenstein of a console! i might be imagining these things though. i think the xeye is the american wondermega 2, but what does that mean? what did they put in this thing? please drop some knowledge bros!
thanks for the response Druid II. is the 315-5660 asic average among the model 2s? and you mention filters, is that hardware? do some model 2s have better sound filter hardware? i always assumed it was the actual audio chip rather then a filter that was responsible for the sound quality. thanks
xeye has a bit less Master System support than model 2. Standard cartridge converters will work, but Genesis flash carts don't switch mode correctly. Some xeye units also need a 32x mod. If lacking the RGB output din required by 32x.
good call Lum, i just got a mega everdrive so ill have to stick to my model 1 for master system. luckily my xeye works with the 32x though!
thanks for dropping knowledge druid, my main is the 89 model 1 that doesn't have the bios security screen, but i have to keep the xeye in rotation whenever i want to play 32x or sega cd games. i didn't know what was inside the xeye but now i do!
The good news is that the solder pads are there last I checked for everything from the DIN connector to the resistors and caps, etc. You just have to know what is needed and where to put it.
Do you know anyone that can add the mini-DIN port needed for RGB back to X'eye? I have an x'eye version that is lacking that port and really want to get RGB to work on it. Thanks
