I read a couple of years back that Sega had filed patents for both a new arcade system and a home system, called Ring Edge and Ring Wide, respectively. Google doesn't really show more than specs and pictures of the system, but what happened to it? Is it used as an arcade system today? Are there plans to possibly release a home arcade system? The Ring Wide have reportedly been used as a mock up of a "Dreamcast 2", which would indicate an approach towards a retail segment. Obviously no contender for the Wii, X360, PS3 and so on.

Hey, that's pretty cool. Does it exist outside of Japan? I know, but this is quite an interesting read though: http://www.patentgenius.com/patent/7488254.html
