I'm looking for a torrent client that is lightweight, fast, has good security options and isn't bloated with ads.

uTorrent used to be the ideal option, but not anymore.

    Any ideas?

PS: Haven't used torrents for quite some time. It's advisable to use PeerBlock to improve security?

Depends on the OS you're using. I like Transmission, which is available for Windows, Linux, and Mac. It works very well on Linux and Mac OS X, but I had problems with it when I tried to run it in Windows. I like it because it has a very simple interface that doesn't take up the whole fucking screen - unlike µTorrent. That's the only program I use, but I know there are many options out there.

utorrent is probably as lightweight as you will find in windows. there are torrent downloader extensions for firefox and chrome.

I use utorrent. It is bloated nowadays but you just have to remember to decline the extra bullshit that is included. A friend of mine is dead set on Azureus.... but I really cannot stand it. I'm sure it works fine and all but it seems like more effort to use and manage. I'd rather just keep it simple ;)

I'm not that paranoid about peerblocking. People can send me all the nasty letters they want - it won't do them much good. Sue me for what? I have nothing left for them to take!

uTorrent is still fine, just download the older versions if you like. Nothing really else to use, other than browser extensions.

I'm using Vuze simply because one of the UK TV download sites doesn't allow certain torrent clients due to too many calls on their system. Vuza seems to do a good job though. No issues with it so far.

uTorrent 2.0.3, safe from the dll hijack exploit and before the GUI took a nosedive.

What's so bad about uTorrent nowadays?

Granted, I rarely use torrents any more and I have a very old version of it (never bothered to upgrade).

I like utorrents newer web interface setup, but it's definitely gotten really bloated

Thanks for all the replies. Still can't decide it though. Will look into uTorrent 2.0.3

I'm actually worried about spyware / malware. Had a nasty malware infection on my old computer and p2p sharing is one of the suspects. Ended up getting a bit paranoid after the whole issue, specially after i heard two friends at work got their computers infected with ZeroAcess malware and they download a lot from torrents.

    Can't blame you.

Personally I use Deluge, but I suppose it's just a matter of personal preference & necessity.

I run the latest beta of uTorrent 3.3 and never had a problem. Coupled with AVG I've been protected from several attacks both torrent and regular download. It works for me with all the options for blocking, bandwidth limits, ect. I know uTorrent is out of the question, but mine has no bloatware if the options are selected right. AND NO FREAKING ADs EITHER!!!

I use uTorrent 2.0.3 under Windows and Transmission under Linux... but to be honest I never bothered trying any other client under either platform.

Download an old version of utorrent before they got bought out and went to shit. Works like a charm.

I've always used μTorrent, but as of late I've had it completely fuck up my bandwidth. Even when I'm downloading with 50kb/s everything else slows down to a crawl for some reason. I've tried port forwarding obviously, I can't seem to find out what is wrong. Should I revert to an older version?

I've been using qBittorrent which hasn't caused me similar problems yet. It's nothing special really, I'd love to get μTorrent to work properly so I can get back to it.
    Is Transmission any good?

Since µtorrent has become bloated BIG time, then there is qBittorrent is a pretty damn good candidate for being a great torrent client, and not just that. It has also support for peerblock lists, it just kinda blows. That there is no linux (.deb etc) file for peerblock , which would actually be a great thing. And I can NOT (yet/probably never) compile files from source in Linux..

If you are running windows, then you can also use IPFilter µpdater in conjunction with peerblock.

I use transmission due to the lightweight nature of the program.
