    @Teancum:

I was using FJ from 2012 to just somewhere in the middle of 2014, and it was always like that. I don't know if they changed their website or not because I stopped shipping items back from Japan since then, but I don't remember that you could ship items that weren't physically present in their warehouse.

Isn't 30 days enough for your items to all reach their warehouse?

Did you chose normal packing, or the light option? By default, they don't chuck the box, unless you either told them to or chose the light option.
When I brought back my TOOL in mid 2014, it came in its SONY TOOL box.

    Did you request additional padding?

I've been on FJ since 2010. I've been doing this ever since the beginning. Basically I would do an order ever other month about. When I find an item I want that is my queue to accumulate as many items as possible and ship them all together. Typically the process I would go about was after buying the first item I would search everyday until the end. Once I have a sufficient amount of items I would bundle these together and add them to the shipping instruction. However I've always been able to add any items I've won regardless of if they were in until recently. This seems to be unique to me though because as you have noticed this seems to be the norm. (as well as for some friends I've asked). I suppose it is possible that I was adding them in a way that the system didn't expect, that was maybe recently fixed.

30 Days is plenty however I have always done it in such a way that I was able to squeeze a few more days in and get a few more items. I didn't really think of this as taking advantage of the system since it always allowed me to do so.

    [/QUOTE]

From 2010 - 2012 I always used "Normal" packing. It was always well packed and padded and my boxes always showed up in good shape. In 2012 the only way to get these items to show up unharmed was to switch to secure packing. Had about 4 packages during this time when I noticed the change. I've never selected Lightweight packing before.

I'm curious to see if any one else was able to add non-arrived items with allready arrived items in there shipping instruction?

Looks like the bare minimum shipping fee is ¥1500 via EMS, and you also need to consider local shipping fees within Japan and possible VAT once the parcel arrives. So, not sure how much cheaper this is in the end. The "buy more to get future discounts" is just adding noise to make comparison harder.

I have only been using Rinkya this year, but so far am very impressed with their service
Items shipped to me in the UK within 5 days
    Excellent packaging
They even let me change the value for customs, so I avoided paying 20% import tax ;-)
Commission / Fees IS over the top if you're buying anything say 1000-10000 Yen, but for very cheap, or expensive items, it's worked out very well for me!

I have used Tenso with Rakutan about 10 times. Service was good. One box got sent back to Japan by USPS with no reason given. USPS refused to accept a claim from me. Tenso says 4-6 months is normal Japan Post response time for a claim. So I had to pay another $60 for shipping. I have also used Buyee with Yahoo Japan auctions about 5 times. Service was great until now. An item I bought was shipped in something other than cardboard box. They want to charge me $20 for a cardboard box. And they refuse to consolidate the item, saying it may damage other items, even though I said I would take responsibility for damage. There are 2 boxes sitting in my storage bin big enough to use, but they refuse to use my box, wanting me to pay 2500 Y for their cardboard box.

However Buyee is part of Tenso, usually businesses get absolutely crap once business has built up. Their prices have increased since the first time I used Buyee, and their site was quite basic. Appears they have more staff now, and I have been picky and demanding from them in the past like always asking for photos.

You might want to request evidence if something doesn't fit or not well protected. Sometimes they over pack with materials and their boxes are quite thick so all which adds weight, then a large shipping price.

I have a lot of experience with Buyee, and have ordered over 12 shipments. Usually when you consolidate packages, they protect the items anyway and I used to always pay for protective packaging which is an extra $5. I stopped doing that once I realised that's what would be done anyway.

What you're saying is quite ironic that they want you to use a box by them and requesting more money from you. If that's no where in their terms of service I'd use that towards them.

EMS is a god send for international shipping to the US.

Japan ---> Customs in Chicago ---> my house. No bs, 3-4 days regularly which is incredible for international.

I've tried Fedex a couple times and it's not bad, but it does take on average 7 days to get to me. The great thing about Fedex is insurance actually WORKS bc there is a Fedex USA subsidary that can take care of the issue. The problem with EMS is it's dealing with 2 countries post service, and if anything breaks neither party wants to deal with the issue (even if it's small)

I did SAL once too, that took like 2 months. No regrets from it. If you need a cheap item and are in no rush to get it, SAL ain't a bad way to go.

If it can help someone, i once used Personal Shopper Japan to bid on a yahoo auction for me.e
It was an urgent auction since i thought i could bid myself but couldn't so i reached to them and in less than 1hour they replied to me.
They won the auction (yay!) and sent me the winning item to france 5 days later for a very affordable shipping price (EMS).

I've been using Noppin for 5 years now, bought anything from games to car parts. Never had a single problem, great service. The 60 days storage is great. I just buy stuff for 2 months and then get it shipped. It usually cost me around 200$ shipped to Canada, but I have around 50 to 100 games and accessories in it, so it's like 2 to 4 $ per item. The most expensive part is their fees, 500 yens for buying + bank transfer fee, sot it's almost 800 yen per item. This is why I usually buy big bundles. If I want a single game, I usually buy on eBay, except if there's a huge price difference(and most of the time there is!). I bought a game for 20$ all included that sells for 80 to 100$ on eBay! What a rip-off!

Why you may want to reconsider using Buyee from now on...

I have been using Buyee for well over three years now. The fact they belonged to Tenso, which has been promoted as a Rakuten partner/forwarding service for years, made me feel confident despite their letterbox company for a UK Ltd, or the fact that their (obviously Chinese) customer service staff often suffer incomprehensible English and lack the expected Japanese customer-focused mindset. On the positive side, their service portfolio has continually improved, adding additional payment options and shops.

Recently though, Buyee have introduced their so-called "Plans" system. This mandatory option is added to the already existing fees and determines how your order is handled at their warehouse (e.g. checking the contents, taking photos) and what happens in case the package is lost or damaged (e.g. claiming a refund).
So basically Buyee have decided to charge for what has been a free service or "going the extra mile". You can, however, opt-out by choosing the "Lite Plan". But here's the thing: when your parcel is sent by Japan Post EMS, insurance is covered up to JPY 20.000 without additional fee and the sender (Buyee) can/should initiate a claim in case of damage or loss. However, Buyee will refuse to do so unless you choose anything but the free "Lite Plan", thus denying any responsibility.
Here's their statement: Regarding your inquiry of our plans, if you choose [Lite Plan] for your package, Buyee will not initiate investigation of compensation to Japan Post if your package is undelivered or damaged. And the Japan Post insurance will only apply when an investigation is initiated. Although you may make a claim to Japan Post on your side, Buyee may not bear the responsibility to cope with this issue if Japan Post contact us. In other words, even if you make a claim with Japan Post yourself, Buyee will refuse to cooperate.

Sure, from a business standpoint I can fully understand their decision to charge their otherwise free services. But I wonder if people are actually aware of the consequences choosing the "Lite Plan" and/or willing to spend additional JPY 500-800 on each purchase in addition to auction and payment fees, domestic shipping fee and possible fees for package consolidation and so forth...?
Although I never lost a parcel from Japan, I disapprove Buyee's policy change and their lack of transparency. In the end, you pay EMS premiums for its reliability: speed, tracking and the aforementioned included insurance.

I have no idea what this forum is, but I decided to make an account to warn future YahooAukers about the dangers of Buyee.

I hope I'm following the rules since the FAQ says nothing about excessive swearing. So here goes my rant.

I've spent almost $5000~8000 since last year on Buyee. I usually choose sea mail or SAL. One of the things I hate about buyee is that their Shipping Staff is DUMB AS FUCK. For example, my items measured roughly around 60x44x30. These are the items:
    http://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/209515197
    http://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/x432319962
    http://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/c534302411
    http://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/r143237735
    http://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/o126234800
    http://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/b148235170
The biggest were the posters measuring 60x44x2.
The idiots at the warehouse decided to fuck me over by choosing a box that was 2/3 bigger than the items inside. When I opened my package, 2/3 of the box was filled with paper fillings. These are the fillings I had to throw out later:
    Box itself:
Don't mind the other box on the left. Those are my cosplay goods.
Finally, this is the size of the posters. Don't mind the blow-up tank shells.
    Details of the parcel:
Total cost of items in parcel: 6,510 yen
    Domestic shipping: 3,085 yen
International shipping: 5,100 yen + 1,000 yen consolidation / I used Sea Mail
    Total weight of parcel: 6,980g

So let's see here, the stuffings could have shaved off a good 500g. I know this because I work at a shipping company. These fucktards couldn't even bother modifying the box to make it as small as possible. These aren't delicate items. These are simply posters or items that won't cause damage upon impact. The way they crumbled the stuffings is stupid as fuck. They crumbled the papers so tight that it doesn't offer any sort of "cushion." It increases weight and it creates a lot of garbage.

Furthermore, I got even fucked in the arse by Buyee when I realized one of my parcels were 2 weeks late. I chose SAL option for it and it hasn't arrived within the 2 weeks. I waited for another 2 weeks and I decied to email Buyee. They basically told me to fuck off because I didn't pay for the $5 insurance plan that you're supposed to put on all items you buy using their service. I told them SAL is an insured system and they told me to fuck off again because they won't bother calling Japan Post about the issue.

Final note: Whoever the fuck packed my goods in a way that made the shipping fee so expensive needs to be gassed immediately. I expect a better service from a Japanese company.

I'm switching services after my last order from them. I'm in an extremely bad mood right now.

I'd rather have that problem instead of a crushed package.

The package won't be crushed if you know how to package it well. Believe me, I work at a shipping company, I know what I'm doing when I package my goods for customers. My boss praise me for excellent packaging skills. I have zero complaints from my customers for the 2 years I worked at that company when it comes to "damaged goods" (I think, how should I remember them all? I worked on thousands of orders). Of course, if the goods were already damaged to begin with (i.e. factory defect), then that's a different story. Otherwise, customers are always happy about the speedy and greatly packaged yet compact goods I sent to them.

    I am, shipping master!
