I want to know the easiest way to do this. I know boot disks are known to work on games from diffrent regions, but is there anyway possible to make it to where it's all regions in one console? Help me out! Im New to DC modding, I can make burned games, but I want to do so much more with my dreamcast.
You can get a region free bios replacement from a member here. Check out the marketplace. Also here's a guide: http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/sega/dc-dev-bios.htm
Thanks, I was hoping that I didn't have to spend money, but I'm pretty sure it's worth it. I was reading that you can make a disk that puts a custom bios on the DC, is that even possible?
You can use Dreamshell to flash a bios, but you won't be able to flash to the existing bios in your DC. You would need to piggyback an empty bios on top of your existing bios, then use a switch to activate it when you write from Dreamshell. For your purposes, it would likely make more sense to buy a pre-written bios from a seller here, then replace your existing bios with it. A replacement region free bios is the only way you will make your DC permanently region free, without the use of boot disks like you said.
I would really like to play my European Shenmue 2 without having to boot disk every time I go to play ot. But, what exactly is Dreamshell?

Awesome! Its an operating software for DC. Neat. Well, when I get the money, I'll buy a bios chip so I can have region free goodness.
Cool, check out Bad_Ad84's listing in the marketplace -- he has them at a very reasonable price and is a great guy. http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?39971-For-Sale-Modding-parts-chips-etc
That's cheap! But, I don't have any pounds to buy them. I do know who does. I have a friend, I'll ask if I can borrow some so I can get these awesome modchips and bios. Im also interested in making a snes cart, like the general idea is to put a Rom image on a blank cart, if that's even possible.
If you pay with PayPal it will do the currency exchange for you. You don't need to worry about if the buyer is accepting dollars or pounds or whatever. Keep in mind the mod does require some decent soldering skills.
Yeah region free bios is fancier if you like that. plain mod chips just quietly bypass the region check, no dreamshell or such extras.
I think the BIOS thing is nice and all but when a mod chip is just 4 wires to decent sized solder points, doesn't seem worth it. Is there some advantage I don't know about?
While I would usually install a BIOS chips as there are minor additional benefits, I would probably go with the 4/5 wire modchip if my soldering skills weren't up to scratch or if a friend was to ask me to simply region mod their console. Goldenshop.com.hk usually have them in stock for $10 + $1 worldwide shipping.
