Does anyone know what the clock speed is of the model 1 Wondermega's CPU?

it's a $820 hybrid of a Megadrive and Mega CD; it can't just be the same clock speed. The mega cd/Sega CD's CPU clock speed is like 12.5 MHz, a basic Megadrive is 7.67 MHz. So either the console has separate CPU's for each or it has one main CPU with a 12.5 MHz clock speed...

Price doesn't matter. It uses the same hardware as a regular MD + MCD combo.
You get the regular 68k on the MD side, at 7.76Mhz and the MCD part uses the same CPU but at the regular 12.5Mhz.
The only differences are form factor, different PCB, maybe some combined ICs, all minor things.

Wondermega is supposedly "high end" electronics for when it was made. I kinda doubt the chip is running at the typical clock speed, if it just 7.76 that's a little disappointing when the 68000 can be over clocked to run at 10~12 MHz.

Has no one here opened up a Victor or Sega Wondermega to test the top clock speed when a running Megadrive game like Sonic?

I think you misunderstood rama. I believe he means there are two 68K CPUs on the board, not one. Same chips but different clock speeds, just like when combining a standard Genesis/MD with a standard Sega CD/Mega CD. I highly doubt they would have combined the CPUs into one chip. That would require a custom part.

Yea, the design calls for 2 separate m68k processors. It's not the most economic console ;p
People couldn't just overclock these at will either. Software expects and times to the 7.76Mhz clock.
If they used a 10Mhz chip, it would just cause glitches in many games.

yet many have over-clocked their Genesis/Megadrive CPU to 10MHz and games run fine. It's only when they overclock it over 12 that games will have glitches.

That only works for Genesis/Mega Drive games. The 32X and Sega CD/Mega CD will not work with an overclocked MD. This is why people add a switch for swapping between the two speeds.

Many games are actually not fine with the overclock. They appear to work and can be finished, but there'll be minor issues.
That's acceptable to modders but not okay in a retail configuration.
