Don't remember the thread? I figured out what it was. It's a Master System development kit. Yes, it's official Sega. It has 512K of SRAM and some Save RAM w/ memory paging chip. The centronics connector is naturally for at least sending games. This thing should play every game because the chip appears to page up to 8M/1 megabyte or else there wouldn't be any more sockets. It must have many other features I'm oblivious to as well, most people would never find out though without proper documents and software.

Interesting but why the genesis controller and the daughter board is dated 1990?

How much you think a unit like this is worth?

Genesis controller because it's the same as a Master System controller. It's dated 1990 because it must have been made in 1990. I have no idea how much it's worth, never seen one before it was posted here right before the new board.

Just remembered, theres the big IDC connector likely for a FM unit and the edge connector towards the bottom left of the board may be for cartridges too... Maybe not, I remember SMS having fewer pins, much less Mark III cartridges.

Yes I got it. Thank you greatly!

The edge connector is 25*2 pins and seems to have the correct spacing to be an export SMS connector. Difficult to know what it is exactly, but it should be something related to SMS/GG, or an arcade system based on similar technology.

Maxim on SMS Power suggests it's for GG:

I think he's right. It could be an early GG-related development board.

    Cool!

Indeed, I would say if it were arcade related, then it would have a JAMMA connector ;)

That makes sense for it to be GG related with the TSOP chips. It would be awefully nice to have a GG with TV out. So the system can play from battery backed SRAM, ROM, or cartridge, not too shabby :)

Well as for TV-Out, some Game Gear exists doing that (I have one).
People on have been working on replicating the mod, and recently someone basically solved the thing:

Give it some time to be stabilized and fully tested, and maybe someone could mass produce the board :)

Wow I'm impressed I didn't know anybody replicated it yet. I'm still looking for an official Sega one though, which somebody here has like 9 of... I'll try building this circuit while I wait. I hope someone implements it on a GAL ;) Still, nobody has tried SMD parts, maybe it really can fit inside the battery case.

a bit off-topic-ness (yeah, again): but are those Genesis controllers with blue start buttons and no genesis or megadrive logo are for test or developements units only? each time i saw those, it was for test or dev purpose...maybe i'm just ''unlucky'' or something.
