What is your oldest file/E-MAIL?

    Sorry, I'm a little sleepy here and probably worded that badly. My goal is to make digital recordings of my old tapes for backup on my hard drive and as a bonus, possibly play them back with an MP3 or other device when loading it on real hardware. It would also be nice if they could be loaded in a C=64 emulator, but that isn't a big deal if they can't.

    If audio fidelity isn't a major concern when making the audio recordings, I might go with the MP3 format instead of WAV or FLAC.

    I see. Yeah, that ought to work. I don't know much about the C64 or its emulators, so I can't really comment on that part. I would suggest, as you originally said, that you record it in a lossless format like WAV or FLAC at a sampling rate of at least 44.1 kHz. That way, even if you end up playing it on an MP3 player (you can always convert it), you still have a high quality recording if you decide you want it.

    The Hard Drive was invented when my parents were in diapers... Back then they were a 2 refrigerator sized appliance. Capacity: 3.75MB or about 3x the capacity of the common floppy disk.
