I have a switch on the right side of my Saturn Model 1. However, I've been trying to play some of my backup discs and the switch does not seem to want to work. I have two discs with the Saturn version of Castlevania SOTN and one with the Saturn version of Resident Evil. All the switch seems to do is change the region of the Saturn from American to Japanese. Does anyone have any idea as to what this mod chip is and how it works? Thanks in advance!
That's just a region mod. Not a modchip. Modchips typically don't have switches either, as they are essentially just a middleman between the mainboard and the CD drive assembly.
It is probably not a mod chip, the switch is simply wired to particular jumpers on the board to change region.
Mod chips don't use switches. They plug in between the CD drive and the main board to alter certain signals for security checks and possibly region. That switch is for changing the region of the console itself from NTSC-U (USA basically) to NTSC-J (Japan).
