I may be getting a DC dev unit, but I wanna know what is the biggest sized SCSI hard drive I can use with this unit and what kind of SCSI drive should I get? Can I put a bunch of game images and run them off the hard drive?

Anything that is up to Ultra Wide scsi will work...

Yes you can run games off the harddrive (i play Ikaruga that way) but you will have to rip the respective gdrs and build the images yourself with some utilities from the Katana SDK...+The harddrive can function in real gd-r speed on no speed restrictions at all giving tremendously smaller loading times.

What is needed to run games off of the hard drive? Can you rip a CD-R backup game to the hard drive and play? I am getting a DC Dev unit with GD Burner, but it won't come with any software discs.

Because we dont need stupid people coming in here asking how to copy a cdr to their dev kit so they can then download PA or half life and burn it to GD-R and call it real....

Im sure if your abit smarter you would be able to burn them but at least we know no one will be answering the questions of how to do it.

You can use files from backup cd-rs...This way i have worked with Ikaruga and Psyvariar 2,but with some other games it did not work...Possibly i did something wrong or it had to do with scrambling/descrambling the executable file,i cannot really remember now...

To use the harddrive you must use GD Workshop Utility and all the files to recontsruct the original GDROM image so that the GDRom amulator can use the files...

Can we keep the pirating talk off the board please. There is really very little need for this info to be posted. Maybe edit your post to take those bits out?

Does the DC Dev Station use 50 pin hard drives or what? Would it work to just get a 50 pin hard drive and how would I set up the DC Dev Station to use the hard drive (I have Katana r10)

    Bigger Hard Drive

Hey guys, new to the forum. I just got my dreamcast development kit ver 5.24 and unfortunately it doesn't have a scsi drive or any software. I've been reading the replacement drive posts and I wonder could you install a massive hardrive in the katana? Say 200GB? Would it be worth it? I was thinking of taking my favorite games and loading them up to the hard drive to play (legit originals). Unfortunately, I don't have the GD workshop or release 10.1. I got scammed on ebay, where they told me it had a hard drive and discs (with nothing on them). Oh well, if anyone can help, I appreciate it. Thanks, B
