Ahhh, the perception of reality :) A little depressive realism never hurt anyone, right?
"Optimism is the madness of insisting that all is well when we are miserable."

Perhaps mine is a little less glittered-up than others. I'll admit being distracted takes your mind off the hopelessness of the situation.
Those with loved ones, family, etc are less likely to see the shortcomings of this ultimately pointless life.
Still, it is what it is and when I find the energy I am going to burn it all down. I guess that's my reason for being.

Slaving away five days a week to earn money to pay rent, to "live" is hardly what I'd call ideal.
There are people out there with less though. Don't know how they do it every day. That's what I wanted to know.
Now I've got the power of insight! Thanks to all who posted. Let's go out there and burn it all down, together :)

that's a great movie actually lol.

"Life ain't all rainbows and lollypops kid"

but still a little madness goes a long way toward making modern life tolerable, and beer, beer helps too.

Hahaha, if I go out it will not be from liver failure, insanity perhaps ;)
Also that's not a wink. It's a newly developed twitch in my right eye...

I wake up every morning because someone in my street has a bloody rooster and it starts making noise at the crack of dawn!

I believe I was in the similar spot you were when I first started out on my own. But for some reason 1 day I accepted that I was a nerd, and didn't want to be the "cool guy" anymore. I didn't want to slave away at my job just to get by. I stopped blaming other people for my problems(probably the root of the cause). Then I started to look to improve my life whenever I could. Influence my own destiny, and not believe that the world is just the boring way it is.

I made it a habit to look up/learn something new every day. About once a week I reevaluate my situation and see what I can do better.

Alot of times its just doing what you can to change your position in life....move, get a new girlfriend, new job, new group of friends, travel to another country, take up a hobby....or do something different even if it is just go out in the woods and reflect.

But if your still depressed it could just be a chemical imbalance. So there is stuff that will help with that too.

There is no "meaning of life", you give your life meaning.
Sorry if this is a little convoluted, its just that I'm dictating right off my brain.

Jesus h....bit of a dark thread this one.

I get out of bed in the morning because I need a cig, that's about it. I take care of that and take the day as it comes. I try not to think more than 10 mins ahead really, I work from home a little and have lots of free time which I fill by learning new things about computers (Linux, PHP ect at the moment). Just spent 3 days solid learning about and installing Gentoo on a netbook which isn't for the faint hearted.

Got the time on my hands, and that's what I enjoy doing. Above and beyond enjoying myself I'm not concerned with anything else at the moment.

RJ, I never though you were so depressed... Whishing for death... Is it because they removed smileys?

I wake up every morning for science and spending wonderful time with my girlfriend!

It really is text book depression, though you don't need a doctorate to see it:

Sunlight and exercise can make all the difference, I speak from personal experience. Sounds cliché as fuck but it really does work, we weren't designed to spend all our time in nerd caves.

I've been there, those things are terrible! We had one of the neighbours take it away to a farm, it scared off the turkeys we have running around - and they are easily twice the size. Go figure the damn thing decided to roost in my little box garden out the front of my apartment!

If only it was that simple, sadly there is a lot of effort required to bring those sorts of changes, and why would it improve anything? It never has in the past.
Friends were ditched a long time ago, other countries suck (sans Japan of course).
Doctor seemed to think it is chemical and peddled some pills. Tried a few over a while, changed who I was... I told them to shove their pills.
Whenever I do meet new people from work, they tend to turn out to be complete idiots or morons or worse... hippies.
Maybe my standards are too high, but that's the way I am. Maybe it is common for people to spell reoccurred as reaccured. Tell them it is incorrect and they then spell it as reacurred. Stab. Stab, STABBY STAB STAB. How did the world get so stupid? Oh that's right, autocorrect.

PHP and Linux? Are you trying to have your head explode? Who's bankrolling the operation?

If only that smilies button would come back... if only! ;) Ughhh, wink is just not the same.

Would not surprise me. If only I didn't have to work for a living. Maybe that's what pisses me off. The rich getting richer, no requirement for them to work but they do. Why? Living outside their means. That's something I've never done because it sounds like a terrible idea. Doesn't help that I work helping some of the richest of the rich. At least if I had a cave there'd be some sound insulation from the dickhead living upstairs. Probably wouldn't be able to afford it anyway, who am I kidding!

It's this country also RJ, everything is fucked over people losing work left and right. Xeauron must of been watching me, but exercising or going to the gym and setting a goal works, I forget how much I haven't progressed in life when I'm there. Anyway, if you're finding yourself in a loop like I was a few weeks back (which my lady and I both were) try and fit something new in or branch out and find something else you're willing to do and I would say exercising is a good activity to forget a lot of things.

If you ever need to have a word, just send me a tweet or something bro.

Aaahhh, the dulcet tones of the experienced cynic. Fucking welcome to real life. The by product of capitalism/democracy is that we say to everyone "you have a good idea? well then make your millions!" - problem with that is that system doesn't obey a scale and holds no prejudice over whether you're a cunt and shouldn't own a controlling interest in something. It potentially affects/controls the lives of millions and can make or break a country.

I'm not advocating communism/socialism, just saying that the collateral damage sustained by such a system is your working life (and mine). No system I know of is infallible which recent global events have proved.

It continues to surprise me just how identical Australia's socio-economic climate is to the UK's. My tiny brain keeps thinking distance is a factor, but a billion miles can't separate oppression in any of it's forms.

My friend, fuck everything else. Do your best to enjoy life, this isn't a dress rehearsal.

Hahaha, thank you. I believe in real life the UK is pretty accurately portrayed in that new TOTAL RECALL remake.
You know the one without Mars or good old three-boob? Sigh!

on the plus side, it does have kate beckinsale and the other wench i forget her name. and the implant phones were a pretty cool concept, but yeah it should have been a seperate movie altogether, My hopes are not high for the robocop reboot either, from the trailer alone it looks like they've changed too much of the story, for no reason.
