What on earth is this mod Part 2 Ok just got this MD from eBay, can anyone tell me what the heck this JPN model 1 revision is, has a strange small PCB in the center of the main board model number is HAA-2510..... also has a cart flap locking mech when the power button is in the on position!!!....
Yeah ill take some more photos. Ive had 1 other Asian and 1 other JPN console and none of them have had this cart lock mech!?

Bit of a test here, im trying to work out which has the better sound out of my VA6 PAL model 1 or this new VA0 JPN console. Heres Mega Turrican Intro on the VA0.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4CPcUJW2J0&feature=youtu.be and VA6.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-XraUGv_bM Done using my Micomsoft SC-500N1 RGB Capture Card using the same capture settings. I think the VA0 sounds ever so slightly clearer???
The lock prevents one from using non Japanese cartridges with the system (You can't power it on). People figured out how to remove the lock ? No problem, Software locks were added to the games. I don't know if many of you are aware of this but the NEO-GEO AES also had such a mechanism lol.
Uhhh... Remove the screws holding it in and pull the plastic pieces out perhaps? IDK. That is my best guess.
You missed the context. He answered his own question. Paraphrased - when people bypassed the lock, they added a software region lockout. The hardware lock was an early version of the region locking.
I dont know lots about sega but in the other thread are good points made about that smaller pcb. timer, or fix for a clock is posible, easly lockout inplace of a non-lockout? compare the circuit with earlier versions and maybe we know.
I actually have a model 2 with that "small PCB" bug fix. I have pictures of it in a thread in the Sega forum somewhere. I use that one as my main unit since it does work despite my complaints of it being dead in the thread. It no liked my burned CD game despite following directions to the letter...
