Hi, I am trying to form a good collection of older consoles but im having trouble deciding what I wanna get next so I'm taking suggestions. For my next one, i am planning on spending 30-50$ I currently have: Gamecube Atari 2600 Dreamcast Snes N64 Xbox 360 Nes Sega Genesis Pong Sports IV by Sears Thanks
Only $30-50? Gamecube. Cheap and common in the US. Doubtful you'll be able to get anything else (maybe an N64) in that price range. Should also be able to pick up a few games easy at that price level.
I would go for a Saturn. Great system, should be within your price range. I would recommend getting a Japanese console, since there were a lot of Japan exclusives and games that were different from the western versions.
Yeah, Saturn man. YOu have a lot of the Sega stuff already. Might as well throw another one on board and get closer to finishing your Sega collection. Saturn is great as well and has an easy mod to play burned backups (literally take the top off and take a piece of plastic in place and put the top back on). That way you can save the fidelity of the games that you buy for it.
A Sega Saturn is a good choice, there's lots of unique and original games to play and is one of my personal favourites, the Sony Playstation would be another.
Like everyone else said, get a Sega Saturn bro ;-) lol especially the Japanese one if you can & if not, you can always buy a Action Replay 4MB Plus to play those awesome imports!
I'd have thought it would depend on what type of games you want to play more than anything? Me, I'd say buy an N64, but that's because I love first person shooters and 3D platform games, and to me the best are on the N64.
I think a PS2 would be a good option. That would cover both PS1 and PS2 games. Slims (at least around here) are $50. Fats are cheaper and can be given an internal HD, which is way cool, but if you don't plan to bother with a HD, then stick with a Slim. A Saturn (although, around here they tend not be in your price range) would also be fun, but games tend to be more expensive on that platform. An original XBox is also fun. But of all of those, I think you'll likely get the most milage out of the PS2.
For $30-50 you could easily get a PS2, which can play like 8 bajillion games (estimated). I was at the Salvation army today and passed up a PS2 Phat for $10.
Go BACK to that Salvation army, buy the PS2, and ship it to me. Unless you're actually IN Chicago. In which case, tell me what Salvation Army you went to so I can go there and buy it.
It was the one at Grand/Milwaukee/Halsted, right off the Blue line. I didn't get it because if Unique has one, on Mondays it's $10 with cables and a controller, this one was bare.
Probably way out of your price range, but I'd go for a BC PS3 and chuck a ODE/Downgrade on it to play burned or games on the hard drive.
I am not sure if you heard about this news, that gamestop is finally releasing all the gamecube console stock for $20 each. Do get this chance to grab the component cable if it is for cheap. http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/08/19/gamestop-restocks-refurbished-nintendo-gamecube-consoles Dang, wish I was in the US now, I would have bought/ collect all the colours of gamecube for $20 each.
Yeah, except, their stock must already be out. They don't sell them in the retail stores anymore and it says that they are out of stock online.
Out of all the systems I own I cherish my n64 the most, but since you already own I'd say the ps2. I bought one broken A few weeks back and managed to get the disc drive to work for about and hour until it it decided to no longer read games. After that I remove the disc drive and mounted both the front drive bezel and power/reset board to the case. After I was done with that I put a fan in the large cavity that was left after removing the disc drive and loaded an hdd with hdd-osd into the back of it making it completely badass. If you want I can upload some pics.
OP has not logged in two days, but if reading this, right now PS2 are at a low point in price and in high availability in the wild. Certainly a good time to grab one and games for peanuts. Classic Xbox too. Of course Saturn is a good choice too, especially if you like high end 2D arcade games. But games are quite expensive.
