I bought a WS back in the day.
Trouble is, games are a pain to acquire.
I'd say stay away from it, unless you enjoy hunting down and importing the games.

Are you specifically interested in handhelds? I've never owned any of those systems, and I've only played them momentarily so I can't really help you there. I do have a Nomad, and while it's cool and all, it's not really useable on any kind of regular basis due to the fact that it's gigantic and the battery life is horrible. I think the Game Gear is a bit better as far as battery life, but I'm not really sure.

I never used a Nomad, but I imagine that its battery would drain very fast.
I did, however, own a Game Gear in my earlier childhood, and the battery life was dismal! Don't get a Game Gear for portable play unless you have a lot of rechargeable batteries.

Yeah, don't get an old portable for portable gaming. Portables have only gotten better with time and the battery life for anything pre-Game Boy Color with a color display is horrible, plus they're huge. I had a GG as a kid too, but could never play it without an AC adapter since it ate up 6 AA batteries in a couple of hours...
How about getting a Sega Genesis or something?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Or a Saturn or a PC Engine or something.

Saturn and especially PC Engine games are relatively expensive if you're on a small budget, though...

Japanese Sega Saturn games are cheap as chips. Postage unfortunately kills many good deals.

If you're in the US, NES and Megadrive would be great options.

Many of them are, some aren't...and they may not be "cheap as chips" to someone whose budget is $30.

Hmm, so you are bored by video games....

A life? ;-) Have you tried going outside and playing some sports, perhaps? Good news - that doesn't cost loads of money!

Really? Wow. Congratulations on having every single Xbox 360 game, including all the DLC.

A games console, WITH games, for under $30? Good luck, there!

Neo Geo Pocket is probably more expensive. Game Gear wasn't bad, although a bit of a battery muncher.

Sounds like a Dingoo might suit you, it´s small, emulates all those systems mentioned in this thread (+ way more) and has a far better battery life. It´s 80$ though..
    :p

I have to say, if you take good care of them and don't really care for musical/graphical accuracy there ok. They aren't the most rugged and the colours and music are a little off.

Accuracy issues aside (I appreciate that's a "personal taste" issue) they also tend to cost more than the real thing, which is absurd. I can't really imagine why anyone would buy a clone unless there are games built-in, and even then an original console + games bundle on ebay will often come in at the same price.

Collectors interested in clones from a historical perspective is different again, of course. They can be interesting devices but from a gaming perspective they're a distant second to the original hardware.

I think its also the reliability( To an extent)

You can use them straight out of the box. If you bought an NES off ebay generally it struggles to play without a new pin connector and clean carts.
