So who do you think made the worst business decision in gaming?

If you feel a company should be picked but for another reason (Nintendo for releasing the Virtua Boy) please pick that companies name and just explain in a post below.

I voted for Nintendo...Sega killed itself with a series of bad decisions...early Saturn Release, left a lot of good games in Japan, less than developer friendly hardware...add on, after add on.

Nintendo screwed itself bigtime with one decision alone. The Cartridge one. It lost so many developers with that, its nuts.

    Cmon folks!

Sega went down a slippery slope of stupidity.

Nintendo screwed itself with one console design!

Sega , definitly, the megacd and 32x were utter crap and the saturn didn't turn out like it should have , and the dreamcast died way to soon due to poor marketing descisions in europe and the states.

  9. Sega without a doubt. Best way to cripple a console at birth? Release it nearly 6 months early before anyone - even the developers - are ready.

I think Nintendo's keeping with a cart design didn't so much hinder them as it brought out creativity in developers. Hmm, how can we fit an entire game's worth of voice acting in a cart? asked Treasure before making Sin And Punishment. Let's see if we can fit a 2 disc PSX game on a Nintendo 64 cart! exclaimed Angel before developing Resident Evil 2. I think it lost a lot of developers, yes, but in my opinion the cart limitations also served to weed out the people that could afford to put out crap games on cheap media (CD), as they didn't want to mess with the costs of cartridge media. Just my opinion, tho...

    sega without any doubt too.
their worst idea was the 32x, he was already dead, but sadly had potential.

nintendo lost a lot of compagny , they aren't what they were in the 16 bit \ 8 bit era , but they are still alive , and they gain points in revolution, not in continuity. (ds is really inovating, playing a game with a pencil! ok, ok.... i played my nes with a hammer , but that's an other story.... :smt043 )

sony isn't much better too, im talking about the 2d. :smt011

  11. Considering that standalone DVD players were upwards of $150 in 1998-1999, that probably would have made the dreamcast a lot more expensive at launch. Would that really have helped?

    indeed , a touch screen .
    and that's why its inovating.
did you view the video of a guy playing metroid on ds? :smt103

he use the direction pad to move forward backward side walk left , side walk right , and the pencil to move is head view and shoot.
    that's amazing.
now , imagine that, a develloper whant to make a game that need more buttons and other controls , they deside to make this: he sell with is game some specials buttons that you fix on the touch screen (lik a joy stick , more butons that could be named c's butons,...)
everytime you whant to play this game , you enter it in the cartige slot
and stick your controls on the screen . ( they show where you need to stick it in the screen , sure)
that could be Amazing! imagine! the possiblility are near-infinite!
    that is game play!

I had to go with Nintendo. I believe that the N64 really should have been CD based console, also the N64 was really hard to develope for, kind of like the Saturn, so we didn't get to see its full potential. I do believe, however, If Nintendo went with a CD drive they would have been way more successful with the N64.

That must have been a long time ago, but to this day I still like cartridges better than CDs. Liking them, however, does not make them better. As far as a business decision goes, the N64 should have been a CD based console.

i love cartriges games more than cds too , i don't know why , maybe the for the love of the old school games , or just because they have something atractive , cd are spirit-less.. (i may sound stupid , but you know what i mean ....i think so. :smt017 )
