Ok, picked this up yesterday thinking it was a SNES multicart with the idea of having so classic fun with messed up hacked roms. Tried to test it today only to find its not a SNES cart. Also tried it in a Megadrive just incase and got nowhere. It's practically brandnew and they sell quite alot of these in the korean markets. Too small to be a NES cart unless i'm missing something. Any ideas.
Ah I see. It never crossed my mind seeing as the primary NES system here is the comboy. Is it worth grabbing a few of these as there are alot for sale and they're all near mint. Saw one which came loaded with Sonic 6. Pity I can't test this one as it seems to have pokemon crystal and pokemon Yellow on it. Is it easy to translate GB roms to NES?
If you see any with popular non-NES mascots on them (Sonic and Pokemon are good examples), pick them up - they'll do well on ebay if nothing else. Same goes for NES FFVII, Chrono Trigger etc - if there's a strong fan base for the mascot/brand then curios like this should sell well. It's not particularly feasible to port a GB game to NES (the GB uses a Z80-alike CPU, the NES a 6502, so they aren't remotely binary compatible), but I've never played the NES Pokemon pirate games so I couldn't say how similar they ended up being. The pirate Sonic games on the NES were shoddy as fuck from what I can remember of playing them, obviously using a pirate-original engine with a bit of sprite theft. However, if you come across Somari, there's a hole in my collection waiting for it... I'd be interested in pretty much any NES/Famicom game with Sonic in it, for that matter, multicart or otherwise.
There are a lot of these pirate carts kicking around but I never paid any attention to them purely because I'm a sega fanatic. I'll certainly give more attention to them from now on.
Speaking of NES FFVII, who produces that? Waixing? Because I noted Waixing makes a game which uses the FF engine, but I forget the actual game title.
Just wanted to add. Never take the label on a pirate multicart at face value because some carts either dont have what they advertise or they have a different game with a changed name, I know a few of mine are like this.
What I like about pirate carts is that no one in china has figured out anything else in photoshop except "paste into selection" versus "resize"
I'm definitively interested in that first cart. I'd be willing to buy any Mario/Sonic hack/original on Famicom.
I'm going to be picking up alot more of these. I'll post them all when I get them and then put them in the market place.
If you ever get a Famicom to test it on, I'd love to see what Sailor Moon turns out to be...I'm also interested in Korean Famicom unlicensed originals. Backstory is that Japan wasn't allowed to export the Famicom to Korea, but some companies slipped them through anyway; so, because of this, the Famicm dominated and the (NES) Comboy failed. It's tough to track down Comboy games. And because of the export/import ban, some companies popped up in Korea to sell pirates *and* unlicensed originals. If you ever find these, I'd love to buy them: http://www.er.uqam.ca/merlin/fd491499/nintendo/nes/funfunclub/
I went shopping this morning and bought a few more famicarts, mainly multi carts and one copy of Ultima but Ultima appears to be japanese.
